Defeating Ho Chi Minh City Club, Hoang Anh Gia Lai escapes danger zone
The victory over Thanh Hoa in round 12 helped the spirit of HAGL players to be much better than before. Coach Vu Tien Thanh's team played more confidently when hosting Ho Chi Minh City Club at home in round 13 of Night Wolf V-League 2023-24 on the afternoon of March 9.
HAGL started the match very well. In the 8th minute, midfielder Chau Ngoc Quang warned the away team with a shot from about 18m, sending the ball wide of the post.

Not long after, Mr. Duc's team found the opening goal. In the 19th minute, Minh Vuong kicked the ball behind the defense of HCMC Club, allowing Dung Quang Nho to quietly run up and cushion the ball into the net, 1-0 for HAGL.
Not yet recovered from the shock of the loss, HCMC FC lost the second goal just a few minutes later. In the 25th minute, Minh Vuong had a smart pass to Chau Ngoc Quang to face goalkeeper Patrik Le Giang of HCMC FC.
In this face-off, Chau Ngoc Quang shot diagonally, defeating the away team's goalkeeper, scoring to raise the score to 2-0 for HAGL.

It was not until after conceding two goals that Ho Chi Minh City FC started to play better. In the 27th minute, Timite of Ho Chi Minh City FC shot hard, defeating goalkeeper Bui Tien Dung, narrowing the gap to 1-2 for the city team.
The second half was quite exciting, Ho Chi Minh City Club pushed up their formation to find an equalizer, while HAGL switched to defensive counter-attacking, aiming to preserve the fragile one-goal gap.
In the 90th minute, Ho Tuan Tai, a substitute player for Ho Chi Minh City FC, headed the ball dangerously from about 14 meters. HAGL goalkeeper Bui Tien Dung stood still and watched, but the ball bounced off the crossbar, missing the chance to equalize for Ho Chi Minh City FC.
Winning 2-1 against Ho Chi Minh City FC, HAGL has 13 points. HAGL has left the bottom team Khanh Hoa 5 points behind, at least until the later match between Khanh Hoa and Binh Dinh ends tonight (March 9). As for Ho Chi Minh City FC, this team has 18 points, still in the middle of the rankings.
