The exhibitions and thematic displays at Quang Ninh Museum in recent years have contributed to awakening the cultural heritage system of the Mining Region, telling us many valuable messages from the past.
In the context of modern society, the preservation and promotion of the value of cultural heritage has become an important task through the organization of special thematic exhibitions. This is a form of display that plays a very important role, contributing to enriching museum activities. Exhibitions and thematic displays can exploit a certain specialized aspect that regular displays cannot meet, while serving political tasks, demonstrating diversity, regular innovation, and meeting the needs of many different audiences.
At Quang Ninh Museum, there are exhibition spaces with two outdoor and indoor exhibition blocks, including 13 permanent exhibition spaces and thematic exhibition spaces; exhibition spaces for Vietnamese and foreign antiques in the conference area. In particular, exhibitions in the exhibition space and thematic exhibition (conference block) are increasingly valued. This space has warm and deep colors and light, very suitable for thematic exhibitions and displays.
From 2020 to now, the Museum has successfully organized 18 exhibitions and thematic displays on the occasion of major national and provincial holidays. Typical thematic displays include: Exhibition of books, newspapers, fine arts, photography and Vietnamese Tet space to celebrate the Party and Spring, "Cultural Colors of ASEAN countries and partner countries", "Uncle Ho with the election of National Assembly deputies and People's Council deputies at all levels", "Coal sculpture profession"...
After the Covid-19 period, the number of exhibitions increased steadily, each year higher than the previous year. Some outstanding exhibitions include: Thematic exhibition "Quang Ninh - Convergence and spreading the colors of Heritage", "Joining hands to soothe the pain of Agent Orange - Quang Ninh in 2023", "Quang Ninh - 60 years of construction and development", "Tran Dynasty culture and Yen Tu Buddhism", "Colors of intangible culture of Quang Ninh", "Spring through folk paintings", "World Natural Heritage - Jeju Korea Special Exhibition", "Unique Dao Thanh Y ethnic coming of age ceremony, Quang Ninh province"...
Not stopping there, the Museum also coordinated with the Faculty of Arts of Ha Long University, groups of artists of the Provincial Literature and Arts Association to organize group art exhibitions to display newly created paintings and sculptures. This is an activity that should belong to the field of literature and art, but the artists chose the Museum as a space to entrust their works. After the exhibitions, dozens of works of high ideological and artistic value were donated to the Museum by the artists. The Museum has also promoted the application of digital technology in exhibitions and displays, helping visitors to look up information related to the ongoing topic.
One of the main tasks and solutions that Resolution No. 17-NQ/TU dated October 30, 2023 of the Provincial Party Committee "On building and promoting cultural values and human strength of Quang Ninh to become an endogenous resource and driving force for rapid and sustainable development" identifies by 2030 is to mobilize investment resources and upgrade modern equipment for art exhibition spaces, including fine arts and photography exhibition spaces; spaces for displaying contemporary works of art, and developing other exhibition contents at the Museum.
Exhibitions and thematic displays at Quang Ninh Museum have made an important contribution to preserving and promoting the cultural and historical values of the locality, while creating unique cultural experiences for domestic and foreign tourists.
Art researcher Phan Cam Thuong, member of the Vietnam Fine Arts Association, commented: Quang Ninh is one of the leading provinces in exhibition activities because it has typical works of architecture and fine arts such as the Museum. Quang Ninh can organize international exhibitions, attracting world-famous figures to create and exhibit without the locality having to spend any expenses. Like other places, to do that, they must have good infrastructure with museum space, exhibition space like Quang Ninh to be able to organize. Thanks to these works, more tourists will come, the local image will also be promoted more widely.
