Tan Huong commune, along the Ho Chi Minh road, was formerly a poor rural area of the mountainous district of Tan Ky. However, since the development of forestry nursery business, the lives of hundreds of families have changed. In the first days of Spring this new year, people here are bustling with the scene of caring for and supplying forestry seedlings to customers.

Ms. Tran Thi Van in Hamlet 7, Tan Huong Commune and her family members take care of the acacia seedling garden and said that in the first days of this year, the demand for forest planting in the localities is high, so the seedlings are consumed strongly. To have a source of seedlings to supply customers, since the last months of 2023, the family has planted over 400,000 acacia seedlings.

"The forestry nursery business takes place almost all year round, but the most is in the spring season, so the entire area of more than 1 sao of garden land is used by the family to grow seedlings. In the first days of the new spring, the number of customers coming to buy has increased, so the family has removed seedlings that do not meet quality standards, packaged them and ready them for customers to buy. This year, the selling price of acacia seedlings is 600 - 700 VND/tree, a decrease compared to last year," said Ms. Van.

Mr. Le Duc Thuyen - Chairman of Tan Huong Commune People's Committee said: The forestry seedling nursery business in the locality has existed since the early 2000s, at first there were only a few households that spontaneously nursed, then seeing the high economic efficiency, people gradually expanded. The whole commune currently has 289 households participating in forestry seedling nursery with an area of up to 30 hectares. Each year, the whole commune earns 60 - 62 billion VND from the seedling nursery business, accounting for 30% of the total production value of the commune.

Of the 289 households participating in tree nursery, over 100 have become well-off and wealthy households, with high incomes each year. The forestry tree nursery business takes place almost year-round, creating jobs for thousands of local workers, with an income of over 5 million VND/person/month.

Developing the forestry tree nursery profession in Tan Huong commune, in addition to providing tree seedlings for the locality, also supplies to the market inside and outside the province such as Ha Tinh, Quang Tri, Thanh Hoa... thanks to the convenient Ho Chi Minh road. In Tan Ky district, in addition to Tan Huong commune, there are currently some localities along the Ho Chi Minh road such as Nghia Hanh, Ky Tan also developing the forestry tree nursery profession, creating commodity products and generating income.
