The first months of the year are always an important time to promote consumption and create momentum for economic growth. Thanh Hoa province has implemented a series of stimulus solutions, from promotional programs, discounts, supporting businesses to expand distribution channels to organizing trade fairs, enhancing tourism promotion, to stimulate people's purchasing power. These efforts not only help total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue increase from the beginning of the year but also create momentum for sustainable development of the local economy in 2025.
People shop at the beginning of the year at Go! Thanh Hoa supermarket.
According to the Department of Industry and Trade of Thanh Hoa, the total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue in the province in January 2025 reached 14,956 billion VND, an increase of 28.7% over the same period last year. Of which, essential consumer goods such as food and foodstuffs reached 6,941 billion VND, a sharp increase of 30.7% over the same period, reflecting the increased shopping demand during the Lunar New Year. Not only food, but also garments, household appliances, and means of transport recorded significant growth, thanks to large incentive programs implemented synchronously throughout the province.
The electronics and electrical appliances group also achieved a good growth rate, as people tend to upgrade their home appliances and shop at the beginning of the year. Large retail systems such as Dien May Xanh, Nguyen Kim, and MediaMart all implement 0% installment programs, with discounts of up to 30% on many items.
In order to promote domestic consumption, large supermarket chains such as Go! Thanh Hoa, Co.opmart, and Winmart have all launched deep discount programs on weekends, giving people the opportunity to shop at preferential prices. Vietnamese goods markets are also regularly held in localities in the province to create conditions for consumers to access quality products at reasonable prices, while supporting businesses to promote their products. The province also encourages businesses to apply e-commerce, expand their business on platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, Tiki and domestic e-commerce platforms. Many large stores in Thanh Hoa also promote online sales and home delivery to meet consumers' convenient shopping trends. In addition, the program to support Thanh Hoa agricultural products on e-commerce platforms continues to be implemented, helping products such as Huong Que clean rice, Vi Thanh sour sausage, Sam Bao wine, Ha Yen shrimp paste, etc. reach more customers.
In addition to consumer goods, service industries also recorded impressive growth. Food and beverage services in January 2025 reached 1,195 billion VND, up 17.9% over the previous month with the revival of restaurants and eateries in the province. Accommodation service revenue also reached an impressive figure of 324.4 billion VND, up 12.7% thanks to the sharp increase in the number of tourists during the Tet holiday.
Many supermarkets and stores are actively promoting consumption right from the first months of the year.
To stimulate tourism and consumption, promotional and discount programs at tourist attractions and resorts have also been strongly implemented, creating opportunities for tourists to experience quality services at reasonable prices. Some large resorts and hotels in Thanh Hoa such as FLC Sam Son, Puluong Retreat, Paracel resort Hai Tien apply a 10-20% discount policy for guests who book early or stay for a long time. In addition, the province continues to organize a series of major cultural events and festivals from the beginning of the year, attracting thousands of people and tourists to participate. Traditional festivals at the Phu Na Historical and Cultural Relic Site (Nhu Thanh), Bach Y Cong Chua Temple Festival (Nhu Xuan), Cua Dat Temple Festival (Thuong Xuan)... not only have spiritual value but are also an opportunity for small traders and businesses in tourism, food and accommodation services to increase their revenue significantly. In addition, agricultural fairs and OCOP products are also organized to promote and consume the province's specialty products, typically the Peach Blossom and OCOP Product Fair in Trieu Son district, where many high-quality local agricultural products are displayed and introduced, helping people have more shopping options.
In addition to stimulating consumption, Thanh Hoa also focuses on supporting businesses in the production and distribution of goods. Agricultural cooperatives continue to promote the supply of clean food and local agricultural specialties to serve the market. Manufacturing enterprises are supported with preferential loans and access to policies to encourage market development to stabilize supply and meet increasing consumer demand.
The commodity price stabilization program continues to be implemented, helping to control inflation and avoid price escalation. The system of essential goods reserves is well maintained, ensuring abundant supply, avoiding shortages during peak shopping seasons.
With positive results from the beginning of the year, Thanh Hoa province continues to aim to maintain the growth momentum of consumption in the following quarters. Policies to support businesses, expand distribution channels, organize trade fairs, and promote cashless payments will be continuously implemented to stimulate people's purchasing power, creating momentum for sustainable economic development in 2025. Promoting consumption from the first months of the year will not only help businesses recover and expand production but also contribute to improving people's living standards, creating a more vibrant and sustainable consumer market.
