To make room for people to do business during Tet, Can Tho postponed the groundbreaking date of 2 intersections.

To create favorable conditions for people to do business at the end of the year, the project to renovate 2/5 key traffic intersections in Can Tho will postpone the start date until after the Lunar New Year 2025.

On December 31, speaking with Giao Thong Newspaper reporters, Mr. Lu Quoc Viet - Director of the Project Management and Land Fund Development Board of Ninh Kieu District, Can Tho City said that the construction start time of intersections No. 1 and 4 will be postponed after the Lunar New Year 2025.

Intersection No. 1 (Mau Than - 3/2 - Tran Hung Dao, in Xuan Khanh and Thoi Binh wards); Intersection No. 4 (Nguyen Van Linh - 3/2, Hung Loi ward) under the Investment Project to build, renovate and expand 5 key intersections in Ninh Kieu district were approved by the city in November 2023.

These two intersections were given priority to start construction first due to high traffic volume. The remaining three intersections include: intersection number 2 (Mau Than - Nguyen Van Cu - Vo Van Kiet); intersection number 3 (Nguyen Van Linh - Nguyen Van Cu) and intersection number 5 (Nguyen Van Linh - 30/4).

This project has a total investment of 1,196 billion VND from the State budget, of which the cost of site clearance accounts for a very large part. Just counting the two nodes 1 and 4, the part for site clearance is over 800 billion VND. Of which, node 1 is nearly 700 billion VND, node 4 is over 100 billion VND for 160 affected cases.

According to the plan, these two intersections will start construction in mid-December 2024. Mr. Viet said that at the end of the year, it is impossible to urge people to hand over the land for the project. Meanwhile, these two intersections are both in the center, which is a prime location for many large and small businesses.

"We are urging people to hand over the site so that we can start construction right after Tet," Mr. Viet said, adding that the selection of contractors for the project has also been completed. Contractors have started work that does not require the site, such as casting manholes and sewers.

Intersection No. 1 (Mau Than - 3/2 - Tran Hung Dao).

Regarding the progress of site clearance, Mr. Viet said that many households affected by these two intersections have agreed to receive compensation, only a few cases need further mobilization.

Intersection No. 4 (Nguyen Van Linh - 3/2).

According to the approved decision, the implementation time will not exceed four years. The project is divided into two phases, the first phase will expand the intersection at the same level, controlled by traffic lights, and arrange independent right turns. Along with that are the items of sidewalks, trees, lighting systems, water supply and drainage...

Phase two will consider arranging overpasses or underpasses according to reality and traffic needs.

Ninh Kieu District has also prepared resettlement areas in Ninh Kieu, An Binh, and resettlement areas on both sides of Nguyen Van Cu Street to arrange land for affected people. In particular, intersections 1 and 4 need 45 resettlement plots.
