Proposed 4 locations for high-rise parking lots in Ho Chi Minh City

VnExpressVnExpress19/07/2023

The 4 proposed plots of land for multi-storey parking lots include part of Le Lai Street, in front of Le Van Tam Park (District 1), part of Cho Lon Bus Station and Hai Thuong Lan Ong Street (District 5).

The above locations were proposed by a number of units after the HCM City Department of Transport requested a review of public land that could be used as public parking lots. The total area of these lands is expected to be more than 1,500 square meters, with a capacity of about 350 cars with 9 seats or less and 200 motorbikes.

The move was made after the National Assembly passed Resolution 98 on piloting a special mechanism, allowing Ho Chi Minh City to build limited-term public parking lots on land managed by the state.

According to the Department of Transport, there are currently two popular forms of building smart parking lots: fully automatic and semi-automatic. In which, the application of semi-automatic technology is assessed to have low investment costs, uncomplicated management, and shorter construction time than the remaining form.

Investment projects in this way also have a quick capital recovery time, low maintenance costs... The above agency has presented the specific advantages and disadvantages of these two forms for relevant parties to evaluate and propose implementation.

The pilot study of multi-storey parking lots is part of the city's transport sector's orientation on implementing parking facilities in the city center and in places lacking parking spaces. Prefabricated multi-storey parking lots are said to take up less space and cost less than underground parking lots; are easy to install and quick to construct; and can be dismantled and relocated when needed...

The center of Ho Chi Minh City is planned to have 4 underground parking lots, with a total capacity of about 6,300 cars and 4,000 motorbikes, but no project has been implemented yet in the context of a serious lack of parking space in this area. Recently, at the 10th session of the 10th City People's Council, Chairman of District 1 People's Committee Le Duc Thanh proposed that the city consider the option of building underground parking lots from the budget because these projects are difficult to attract private investment and take a long time to implement.
