Proposal to invest in the North-South Expressway, Western section, through Kon Tum province

According to the road network planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, the Western North-South Expressway (Ngoc Hoi-Kon Tum-Pleiku section, about 90 km long) is determined to be invested before 2030.

Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee has just sent an official dispatch to the Prime Minister regarding investment in the Western North-South Expressway (CT.02) section passing through Kon Tum province.

Accordingly, the People's Committee of Kon Tum province proposed that the Prime Minister consider and arrange funding to invest in the Ngoc Hoi - Kon Tum - Pleiku expressway in the 2021 - 2030 period according to approved plans.

Mr. Le Ngoc Tuan, Chairman of Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee, said that Kon Tum is located at the strategic position of Indochina junction, the core area of ​​the Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia development triangle. Kon Tum province has an important geopolitical and geo-economic position of the East-West corridor, and is the gateway for Laos, Cambodia, Thailand and Myanmar to reach the seaports in the Central Coast and Southeast regions of Vietnam.

According to the plans approved by the Prime Minister, including: Road network planning for the period 2021 - 2030, vision to 2050; Central Highlands planning for the period 2021 - 2030, vision to 2050; Kon Tum province planning for the period 2021 - 2030, vision to 2050, the North - South expressway in the West (Ngoc Hoi - Kon Tum - Pleiku section, about 90km long, 6 lanes) is determined to be invested before 2030.

According to the Chairman of Kon Tum Provincial People's Committee, the North-South Expressway in the West (Ngoc Hoi - Kon Tum - Pleiku section) ensures connectivity between provinces in the region, linking the Central Highlands and Central Coast, Southeast regions; convenient connection with international border gates to Laos and Cambodia, strengthening international connectivity within the framework of the Mekong Sub-region Cooperation, the Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia development triangle area.

This project also promotes international trade, import and export of goods and trade in services connecting the East-West economic corridor of the region; promotes the development of export of goods and agricultural products of Kon Tum province in particular and the Central Highlands in general; meets the increasing demand and promotes the advantages of tourism types with strengths such as cultural experience tourism of ethnic groups, highland agricultural tourism and types of resorts, exploration, and community ecology of the provinces in the Central Highlands region.

Previously, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province also sent a document to the Ministry of Transport proposing to invest in the North-South expressway in the West section passing through this province.

Specifically, the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee requested the Ministry of Transport to consider and synchronously implement the Western North-South Expressway Project, focusing on investing in sections passing through Gia Lai province, including the Ngoc Hoi (Kon Tum) - Pleiku (Gia Lai) expressway section, 90 km long, with 6 lanes; the Pleiku (Gia Lai) - Buon Ma Thuot (Dak Lak) expressway section, 160 km long, with 6 lanes.

“With the investment in the above-mentioned expressways before 2030, the transport infrastructure network in the Central Highlands region will form a high-speed transport axis connecting the Western region with the Eastern region, connecting with Quy Nhon Port area because the Western North-South expressway connects with the Quy Nhon - Pleiku expressway”, said the leader of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee.
