The above information was given by a representative of the Ministry of Public Security at a mid-term review workshop on the results of the implementation of the program to prevent and combat human trafficking and support victims of trafficking in the 2021-2025 period organized by the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs on July 28.

A victim of a human trafficking ring in Cambodia recounted the incident to Thanh Nien reporter.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, in 2022, nationwide, 90 human trafficking cases were discovered and investigated, with 247 subjects, 222 victims were sold (of which, trafficking abroad accounted for 54%) and 8 cases, 21 subjects with related acts.

In the first 6 months of this year, the whole country continued to detect and investigate 88 cases, with 229 subjects committing human trafficking crimes under the provisions of Article 150 and Article 151 of the Penal Code, identifying 224 victims of trafficking (of which, trafficking abroad accounted for 55%).

A common method of human trafficking is that criminals take advantage of social networks such as (Zalo, Viber, Facebook...), using fake names, ages, and addresses to make friends, get acquainted, and promise to find jobs with high incomes, marry foreigners... Then, they trick and sell victims abroad, force them into prostitution, become illegal wives; force them into labor or trick them into working as waitresses at karaoke bars, barbers, or massage parlors.

In addition, the subjects also set up secret groups "Cho nhan con" on social networks, looking for pregnant women who do not want to raise children or are in difficult economic circumstances to adopt. Then, they sell them for profit. In addition, the situation of surrogacy for commercial purposes still has potential for complicated developments.

Regarding the area of operation, the situation of human trafficking on the Vietnam - Cambodia and Vietnam - Laos borders is complicated and tends to increase. If in the past, the victims of trafficking were mainly women and children, now young men are being trafficked more and more.

The location of human trafficking has also changed, with a tendency to move from the North to the Central and South. The methods of human trafficking crimes are increasingly sophisticated, and the ringleaders and organizers are often overseas, making it difficult to fight and prevent.

Ms. Nguyen Thuy Duong, Deputy Director of the Department of Social Evils Prevention (Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs), said that the work of preventing and combating human trafficking in general and supporting victims in particular in the current context is forecast to face many challenges.

According to Ms. Duong, human trafficking criminals often operate under gangs, through complex relationships in many countries, with sophisticated tricks, disguised as volunteers in refugee camps, private medical facilities, businesses sending workers to work abroad and through digital platforms to approach, lure and kidnap victims.
