According to statistics, by the morning of December 12, African swine fever had occurred in 51 households and 24 villages in the following areas: Cam Xuyen, Hong Linh, Duc Tho, Thach Ha ( Ha Tinh ) with nearly 277 pigs destroyed.
On the afternoon of November 16, the Veterinary Department of Region III coordinated with the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to inspect the prevention and control of African swine fever in Cam Duong commune (Cam Xuyen).
On November 5, when she discovered that her family's first sow had symptoms of illness and stopped eating, instead of reporting to the local authorities, Ms. PTT in Cam Duong commune (Cam Xuyen) went to buy medicine to treat herself. After 3 days of treatment, the signs of illness did not improve, the pig died, so the family reported to the local authorities. At this time, the professional department came to take samples for testing and discovered African swine fever (ASF).
After the first outbreak, from November 8 to 15, the disease appeared in 3 villages of Cam Duong commune with 16 sick pigs that had to be destroyed. By December 12, in Cam Duong commune, ASF spread to 6 villages with 18 households, causing 36 sick pigs, which died and had to be destroyed. It is worth mentioning that the disease appeared in small-scale farms and the sick pigs had not been vaccinated.
After detecting the disease, the pigs were destroyed by authorities.
On November 25, at Mr. TVB's household in Tan Lam Huong commune (Thach Ha), the authorities also discovered ASF after taking samples for testing. Previously, although the pigs showed signs of diarrhea, instead of reporting to the local authorities for a treatment plan, Mr. B. arbitrarily bought medicine to inject the pigs. Only when the first pigs in the herd died did he report to the authorities.
Mr. B. admitted: "My family's herd of 23 pigs was about to be sold. When the pigs had diarrhea, I was very worried and bought medicine to treat them myself. After nearly a week of treatment, the symptoms did not improve and the pigs died, so I reported it to the village officials. After testing positive for ASF, the entire herd of pigs in my family was destroyed."
According to statistics, by the morning of December 12, ASF occurred in 51 households and 24 villages in the following areas: Cam Xuyen, Hong Linh, Duc Tho, Thach Ha with nearly 277 pigs destroyed.
A household in Tan Lam Huong commune (Thach Ha) sprays disinfectant to disinfect barns.
This is the transitional season, the resistance of livestock is low, susceptible to disease; on the other hand, the recent heavy rains have caused many livestock areas and barns to be flooded, polluting the livestock environment. In addition, livestock households increase their herds to meet the demand during the Lunar New Year; buying, selling and transport activities increase... The ASF virus has a high resistance, can survive for a long time in the environment, the transmission route is complex and difficult to control; the disease has no specific medicine, which are the reasons why the epidemic is complicated.
However, it is also necessary to recognize that the subjective and negligent mentality of the people in disease prevention work has also caused DTLCP to appear quickly and spread widely. There is still a situation where households are subjective in not vaccinating livestock and poultry; when livestock show symptoms of the disease, they do not report to the authorities for timely treatment...
Vehicles entering and exiting African swine fever epidemic areas are disinfected.
Ms. Hoang Thi Ngoc Diep - Deputy Head of the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Ha Tinh said: "Avian Influenza is occurring in 4 localities, outbreaks are mainly occurring in small-scale livestock households in the area. This is a rather sensitive time, it is forecasted that in the coming time there will be cold air and many rains, humid weather, livestock have reduced resistance, the volume of transportation, trade of animals and animal products increases, the disease situation in some provinces in the region is complicated... Therefore, the risk of Avian Influenza arising and spreading is very high. Therefore, we are focusing on epidemic prevention and control; simultaneously implementing sanitation, disinfection of livestock environments, limiting the spread of epidemics".
Leaders of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development regularly inspect and urge localities to strictly implement the work of preventing and controlling African swine fever.
According to Ms. Diep, the outbreak of ASF in the area at this time has had a significant impact on livestock farmers because it is the time when there is a large livestock herd to meet the food demand for the upcoming Lunar New Year. People should not be subjective and hide the epidemic, but should report to the authorities to promptly have a plan to isolate and contain the epidemic.
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine of Ha Tinh recommends that people absolutely do not arbitrarily sell or throw dead pigs into the environment; when importing pigs, choose pigs with clear origins and healthy pigs. At the same time, take care of and regularly monitor the health of the pigs, supplement vitamins and minerals in the diet; keep the barn dry and warm. Along with that, fully vaccinate the pigs; regularly clean and disinfect barns, livestock areas, tools and means of transport, and limit people entering and leaving barns and livestock areas.
In addition, local authorities regularly inspect the livestock situation in the area to detect sick and dead pigs, promptly handle outbreaks; inspect the transportation, slaughter, and trading of pigs, strictly handle violations; investigate and grasp the total herd up to the present time; guide households to declare livestock farming according to the law; organize large-scale environmental disinfection spraying...
