University floor scores in 2025 in Ho Chi Minh City: Strong differentiation between schools and majors

The deadline for candidates to register for college and university admission on the Ministry of Education and Training 's Information Portal ended yesterday (July 28).

According to statistics, the most common floor score at universities in Ho Chi Minh City is from 15 to 16 points, applied to admission methods using high school graduation exam scores in 2025.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry, Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport, Ho Chi Minh City Open University, University of Finance and Marketing, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education... all announced the floor score from 15 to 17 points, depending on the major. For these schools, the floor score decreased by an average of 1-4 points, even some schools decreased by 6-9 points such as Ho Chi Minh City Open University, University of Natural Sciences - VNU-HCM...

The University of Social Sciences and Humanities (VNU-HCM) – one of the schools with the most applicants – maintains the same minimum score as in 2024, ranging from 16 to 22 points depending on the major and admission combination. The Journalism major this year takes 20 points, 1 point higher than last year.

Meanwhile, some non-public universities or specialized training schools with smaller scale have announced the minimum admission score of only 12 to 14 points.

Among them, Gia Dinh University, Hong Bang International University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH), Van Lang University, Nguyen Tat Thanh University... announced the minimum score from 12 to 15 points for most majors, except for some majors with special requirements such as Health and Pedagogy. Up to now, Hung Vuong University, Ho Chi Minh City is considered to have the lowest minimum score with 12 points/combination, meaning each subject is only 4 points.

A school representative said that a low floor score does not mean low quality, but creates more opportunities for candidates with average to good academic performance, especially when these schools have practical training, international links and commitments on employment after graduation.

The Education and Health Blocks "stick" to the floor of the Ministry of Education and Training

According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, in 2025, the majors in the teacher training and health groups will continue to apply their own floor scores, which are significantly higher than the general level. For the Pedagogy group, the floor score is 19 points for all admission combinations. The Health group has a practice certificate, the floor score is from 21 to 23 points, depending on the major. The Medical and Dentistry majors have the highest floor score, up to 23 points.

Schools that train in this field such as Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Nguyen Tat Thanh University, Hong Bang International University, Van Lang University, Ho Chi Minh City University of Education, Saigon University... all announced that they strictly comply with the minimum score set by the Ministry.

Some high-quality training programs, international cooperation or "hot" majors at top universities under Ho Chi Minh City National University such as University of Technology, University of Natural Sciences, University of Information Technology have announced floor scores ranging from 22 to 25 points, depending on the combination.

For example, the Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and Software Engineering majors at the University of Technology and the University of Information Technology have a minimum score of 24-25 points – the highest in the entire admission system of Ho Chi Minh City this year.

According to the floor score comparison, Hung Vuong University in Ho Chi Minh City this year takes 12 points for most majors, while Saigon University has the highest entrance threshold for pedagogical majors, notably History and Geography with 25 points. Mathematics education has a threshold of 24.5 points, while Physics education, Chemistry education, Literature education and English education are all at 24 points. Thus, Saigon University's floor score is more than twice as high as Hung Vuong University's floor score.
