Truong Dich Van (born 2007) comes from an intellectual family in Henan province, China. Her parents are both civil servants, working in the education sector. Since childhood, her parents have invested carefully in her education.
Thanks to her parents' support, she learned to read at the age of 4. When she reached school age, Zhang Yiwen's father believed that the school curriculum did not develop her abilities and was a waste of time and money. He decided to educate his child himself by opening a private school and building a "prodigy education" model.
"Product" of the "forced prodigy" education model
Every day, Zhang Yiwen wakes up at 5am to study. After lunch, she rests for 1 hour before starting her afternoon classes. Her studies end at 10pm. Studying with high intensity, after only 5 years, Zhang Yiwen completed her primary, secondary and high school education.
At that time, many people thought she was smarter than her peers but not a prodigy. However, her parents had high expectations for her. Her father, Truong Dan Thao, even said that his daughter would pass the university entrance exam at the age of 10 and finish her doctorate at the age of 20.

True to her parents' expectations, at the age of 9, Truong Dich Van took the university entrance exam. Being exposed to Natural Sciences but ignoring Social Sciences such as History and Geography, Truong Dich Van only scored 172/750 points. With this score, she did not have enough points to pass the College in Ha Nam province.
Not giving up, Mr. Truong Dan Thao sent his daughter to a review center to retake the exam the following year. In 2017, she took the university entrance exam for the second time, scoring 352/750 points. Truong Dich Van just passed the entrance exam to the Shangqiu Institute of Technology, majoring in Electronic Information Technology and Engineering.
Knowing that Truong Dich Van passed the university entrance exam at the age of 10, some people thought that if she had studied and developed in a normal environment, she might have been able to get into a more prestigious university.
Besides admiration, many people think that Truong Dich Van is a "forced prodigy". She was not a prodigy in the first place, this result is a "product" of the "forced" education and ambition imposed by her parents.
They criticized his parents' extreme education - which could cause Truong Dich Van to lose life skills and fall into a state of crisis in the future.
"Child prodigy" graduated from university, companies did not accept
Entering university, Truong Dich Van was different both physically and mentally. Therefore, her life was completely turned upside down. The age difference made her have no close friends during her university years and always fell into a state of loneliness.
The biggest difficulty Zhang Yiwen encountered was the gap in her knowledge. In her third year of university, her lecturer even suggested that she drop out because her ability could not keep up. She did not give up and tried to complete the program. In July 2020, Zhang Yiwen officially graduated.
Graduating from university at the age of 13, Truong Dich Van could not join companies because she was not old enough to work. According to the schedule set by her parents, after graduation, she would study for a master's degree, but the major related to computers required taking exams in Math and English. Meanwhile, Truong Dich Van was weak in these two subjects, so she could not pass the postgraduate exam.
Having no other choice, Truong Dich Van returned to her family's private school, taking on the job of teaching assistant with a salary of 2,000 NDT/month (6.5 million VND). Her daily job is to help her mother correct students' homework, organize and handle some related work.
Talking about his daughter's job, Mr. Truong Dan Thao said that if she does not come to school on time or is not serious in class, Truong Dich Van will have her salary deducted and will only receive 1,000 NDT/month (nearly 3.3 million VND).
Zhang Yiwen’s father said he plans to let his daughter experience the teaching assistant job for about two years. After that, she can continue to take the master’s entrance exam or find a job in her major.
Every time this story is mentioned, Truong Dich Van's parents receive a lot of criticism for forcing their child to become a prodigy from an early age.
Now, at the age of 16, Truong Dich Van has begun to enter puberty, her personality has changed, she is more rebellious. She has expressed her own personal opinions, sometimes contrary to her parents.
Up to now, many people think that Truong Dich Van's future is quite uncertain. She is a "product" of the "forced prodigy" education model, lacking many life skills and knowledge, so she faces many difficulties when competing in society.
