The Vietnamese team will be Indonesia’s opponent in the final round of the Asian Cup football championship taking place early next year. That is why the recent friendly matches of coach Philippe Troussier’s team have attracted the attention of the Indonesian press.

Indonesia's Indo Sport newspaper said: "Indonesia's opponents at the Asian Cup all had international friendly matches in recent days, Japan celebrated their victory, while the Vietnamese team remained undefeated."

Indo Sport added: "Indonesia is in Group D with Japan, Vietnam and Iraq at the Asian Football Championship.

In a series of friendly matches during FIFA Days (the day the World Football Federation allows national teams to freely gather players from clubs and perform international duties), the team of ten thousand islands drew 0-0 with Palestine and lost 0-2 to Argentina.
