Storm Matmo will bring widespread rain to the North

Storm Matmo caused very heavy rain in the Central region.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, the weather in the North will be sunny until October 5. In Hanoi , on October 3, it will be sunny and hot in the afternoon and evening, with the highest temperature in some places reaching over 34 degrees Celsius. There is still a possibility of thunderstorms in some places in the evening. This weather condition in Hanoi may last until the end of October 5, before entering a period of widespread thunderstorms lasting from October 6-8 due to the influence of storm Matmo.

Due to the influence of storm Matmo, from around 7pm on October 5th, rain and wind will gradually increase in the North and Thanh Hoa. In Quang Ninh, rain and wind may increase from the afternoon of October 5th.

According to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, it is likely that storm Matmo (storm No. 11) will directly affect the northern provinces around October 6. Due to the influence of the storm's circulation, the northern and north central regions from the night of October 5 to 7 are likely to experience widespread heavy rain.

Assessing that storm Matmo is a strong storm with a wide circulation and a large impact area, the Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warns that from noon and afternoon today, October 3, the sea area east of the northern East Sea will have winds gradually increasing to level 6 - 7; then increasing to level 8 - 9. The area near the storm's center will have strong winds of level 10 - 11, gusting to level 13, waves 4 - 6 m high, and rough seas.

During October 4-5, the northern sea area of the North East Sea will have strong winds of level 11-12, gusting to level 15.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting warns that due to the influence of storm Matmo's circulation, from October 5 to 7, the northern and north-central provinces are likely to experience widespread heavy rain.

The name of storm Matmo was proposed by the US hurricane forecasting agency, and is on the list of storm names managed by the Hurricane Committee of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The name of storm Matmo means "heavy rain".

In fact, in 2019, the South Central provinces suffered a lot of damage from a storm also internationally known as Storm Matmo, the fifth storm of 2019, affecting the coastal areas of Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, and Phu Yen provinces.

The 2019 storm Matmo caused widespread heavy rain from Thua Thien - Hue to Ninh Thuan and the Central Highlands on October 30 - 31, with rainfall ranging from 300 - 400 mm/period. In particular, the provinces of Binh Dinh, Phu Yen, and Khanh Hoa had rainfall of 400 - 600 mm/period, causing flooding in many places.

After passing Luzon of the Philippines, storm Matmo will enter the East Sea, becoming storm number 11 and has a very high possibility of rapidly strengthening into a typhoon (level 12-13).

It is expected that by tomorrow morning, October 4, the storm will leave the Philippine forecast area (PAR) and move deep into the East Sea, heading northwest.

Meteorological experts say the intensity of storm No. 11 depends largely on the subtropical high pressure in the North. If the high pressure edge shifts, the storm's trajectory may change and go lower than initially forecast.

Entering October, climate trends continue to show many unusual signs, requiring localities and people to closely monitor weather developments to proactively respond.
