Germany sends 4,000 attack UAVs to Ukraine

Ukraine ordered the drones from the Helsing artificial intelligence company in September. The payment was made through a German government fund.

German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius also confirmed the transfer and said he was happy that it was happening at a time when Ukraine really needed it.

The UAV is called the "Taurus mini" - a long-range missile that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz once refused to supply to Ukraine. These devices are controlled by AI and can overcome Russia's GPS jamming capabilities.

The UAV's success rate in hitting targets is said to be higher than that of manually controlled combat drones, while its range is four times higher than that of conventional kamikaze drones used by the Ukrainian military.

At the same time, the administration of President Joe Biden also allowed Ukraine to use US-made weapons to attack deep into Russian territory, a significant reversal of Washington's policy in the Ukraine-Russia conflict.

Ukraine plans to carry out its first deep strikes in the coming days using ATACMS missiles with a range of up to 306 km, but did not disclose details.

The move comes two months before President-elect Donald Trump takes office on January 20, 2025, and after months of calls by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky for the United States to allow its military to use American weapons to attack military targets in Russia.

The Biden administration's policy reversal comes as Kiev finds itself in a weak position as Russia steps up its counter-offensive in Kursk and continues to make advances on the eastern front in Ukraine.

Responding to this US move, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the information that US President Joe Biden allowed Ukraine to use long-range missiles to attack Russian territory was a dangerous signal, emphasizing that this move could escalate the conflict.
