Strengthening friendship, affirming international responsibility

"Right after arriving in Lima, we directly witnessed and felt more clearly the beauty of the country, people, hospitality and dynamic development of Peru - a country with a deep cultural history and one of the cradles of human civilization," President Luong Cuong shared with the press during his official visit to Peru and participation in the APEC Summit Week in 2024, at the invitation of Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra.

The applause of the two countries' officials and the diplomatic delegations was unceasing when Peruvian President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra presided over the ceremony and presented President Luong Cuong with the Grand Cross of the Order of the Sun of Peru. This is the highest award of the Republic of Peru established by liberator Jose de San Martin to honor outstanding leaders and liberators of Latin America and the world.

More specifically, the awarding of the Medal on the occasion of the first visit of the Head of State of Vietnam to Peru was made on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries (November 14, 1994 - November 14, 2024), demonstrating the precious affection, respect, thoughtfulness and warmth of the leaders and people of Peru for the President as well as Vietnam.

The Vietnam-Peru friendship over the past 30 years has been continuously nurtured through generations and is linked by common values ​​for peace and development. As affirmed by President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra, the relationship between the two countries is consolidated and developed on the basis of development cooperation for peace, jointly protecting principles respected by international law, jointly promoting free trade, and cooperating on the basis of other multilateral mechanisms.

President Luong Cuong also expressed: Although geographically distant, the Vietnamese people have known Peru as a beautiful country with kind and hospitable people; a country of the brilliant Inca civilization, home to the Machu Pichu relic complex recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, a place that preserves unique historical and cultural values, a destination for millions of tourists each year, including an increasing number of Vietnamese tourists.

Lima Mayor Rafael Lopez Aliaga affirmed: "By presenting the symbolic Key to the city and recognizing Lima as the Guest of Honor, from today, President Luong Cuong will officially become a close friend and brother of Lima and Peru." The close and respectful feelings, along with the warm sharing and mutual understanding, have erased the great geographical distance between the two countries and two peoples in two hemispheres.

In the context of the global economy facing many challenges, the economic and trade relations between Vietnam and Peru continue to be strengthened. Peru is currently the sixth largest trade partner and the most important investment destination of Vietnam in the Latin American region.

Typical of Vietnam's important investment projects in Peru is the Bitel telecommunications network of the Military Industry-Telecoms Group (Viettel), which has had the fastest growth rate in the Peruvian telecommunications market in the past 10 years, creating jobs for nearly 3,000 official workers and nearly 23,000 indirect workers. The President affirmed that Bitel's success is Vietnam's success and the Peruvian people's trust in Bitel is their trust in Vietnam.

President Luong Cuong expressed: "I believe and hope that our two countries will continue to unite, support and stand side by side on the road ahead, bringing the bilateral relationship to increasingly strong development in all fields, making practical contributions to the realization of development goals; for a prosperous and happy life of the people of our two countries."

Meanwhile, President Dina Ercilia Boluarte Zegarra also hopes that after concluding the official visit and attending the APEC Summit Week, President Luong Cuong and his delegation will bring the friendship of the Peruvian people back to Vietnam.

Along with the official visit to Peru, the President attended the APEC 2024 Summit Week on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Forum's founding, with a schedule of attending forums, dialogues, and bilateral meetings continuously affirming Vietnam's positive and responsible contributions to solving regional and global issues, promoting the process of international economic integration, and creating new momentum for regional growth.

Throughout his speeches and sharing at the summit, dialogues and meetings, the President highlighted the foundation of APEC as multilateralism and free trade and affirmed the importance of solidarity and consensus among member economies; strongly affirmed a Vietnam entering a new era, an era of national growth; affirmed a dynamic, innovative and creative Vietnam as a leading destination for international investors.

The President made in-depth comments and assessments on the trends, opportunities and challenges of the region and the world, and proposed major directions for APEC to continue to maintain its leading role as a driving force for global economic growth and ensure that people are at the center of the economic development process.

Speaking at the APEC Business Summit 2024 (within the framework of APEC High-Level Week), the President affirmed: The world is undergoing enormous, epochal changes, having a profound impact on the international political and economic environment, on each country, and even on each business.

In that context, APEC is the place to reflect, exchange, and build an international economic governance system that is most favorable for the development of member economies. Affirming that after nearly four decades of innovation and deep international integration, Vietnam has risen to become a symbol of peace, a bright spot of the world economy, and a country of opportunities.

"I believe that this Conference will bring a new breeze and new vitality, so that we can all enter a new era of opportunity and success, an era of a dynamic, creative, peaceful and prosperous Asia-Pacific," the President expressed.
