Thanks to promoting digital transformation in trade promotion activities, annual e-commerce sales in Gia Lai have increased.
In Gia Lai province, in recent times, the Department of Industry and Trade has planned and implemented programs to connect and promote trade at the provincial and regional levels, with close links between producers, distributors and consumers. Thereby contributing to strengthening cooperative relationships in various fields, between departments, branches and units of the province with departments, branches, localities, provinces and cities across the country.

From 2021 to 2023, the Department of Industry and Trade has supported the construction of 255 e-commerce websites, online brand sets, and online business management software for businesses, cooperatives, and production and business establishments to introduce, buy and sell products and goods; promote online business on reputable e-commerce platforms.
The development of e-commerce has gradually changed from the stage of formation, infrastructure creation, widespread dissemination and is gradually entering life, contributing to improving the competitiveness of businesses. People gradually change their habits from traditional shopping to online shopping.
Up to now, about 20% of the population participates in online shopping on e-commerce platforms such as: Lazada, Shopee, Sendo, mobile applications and social networks such as: Facebook, Zalo... Enterprises have begun to pay attention to e-commerce, proactively participating in applications and e-commerce platforms to exchange and buy and sell, build their own websites and at the same time carry out digital transformation in enterprises, increase productivity, management efficiency, and increase competitiveness in the market. Most supermarket systems, shopping centers, and businesses promote non-cash payment methods such as: e-wallets, internet banking, smart banking...
Sales in e-commerce transactions have increased every year, the proportion of e-commerce revenue in total retail sales of goods in 2023 is estimated to reach 7.5% (7% in 2022). Thanks to the efforts of local authorities as well as businesses in the province, the e-commerce index (EBI) of Gia Lai province has continuously improved over the years: in 2023 it reached 13.6 points, ranked 38/63 provinces and cities and 3/5 provinces of the Central Highlands (after Lam Dong and Dak Lak); up 2 places compared to 2022 (40/63 provinces and cities), up 6 places compared to 2021 (44/63 provinces and cities).

To achieve the above positive results, Mr. Pham Van Binh - Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of Gia Lai province said that the unit has been implementing many solutions to support enterprises and cooperatives to promote their potential and actual conditions to develop e-commerce in accordance with requirements, improve competitiveness, and effectively promote, introduce and expand the market for goods and products of provincial enterprises in the trend of digital economic integration.
The Department of Industry and Trade has coordinated with specialized units and experts in the field of e-commerce to organize specialized training courses on skills in participating and selling on e-commerce platforms; skills in applying e-commerce to develop brands and do business effectively for enterprises in the province; skills in ensuring safety and security in the digital environment;
Preside over and coordinate with departments, branches, sectors, and business associations to support businesses, cooperatives, and production and business households in the area to build e-commerce websites and e-commerce application software with full features that allow buyers to carry out the entire shopping process on mobile devices (each year, support from 60 to 80 businesses and cooperatives in the area to build websites and e-commerce application software).
Support businesses and cooperatives to participate in introducing and buying and selling products and goods on reputable e-commerce platforms such as: Sendo, Lazada, Tiki, Shopee, ... (about 10-20 businesses and cooperatives each year); promote the buying and selling of local products, ensuring that 100% of Gia Lai OCOP products are displayed and bought and sold on the e-commerce platform ocopgialai.vn.

Preside and coordinate with the Department of E-commerce and Digital Economy - Ministry of Industry and Trade to develop exhibition software to help promote the province's key products: coffee, pepper, tea, macadamia, etc. on cross-border e-commerce platforms; help businesses update information quickly, improve efficiency in product advertising. Thereby improving the competitiveness of businesses in the province.
Coordinate with commercial banks, payment intermediary service providers, tax authorities, disseminate information to businesses, retail units of goods and services (especially retail agent systems, convenience stores), and consumers to apply services on mobile platforms, apply digital signatures, perform electronic contracts, electronic invoices and make non-cash payments.
With the strong development of the Internet, promoting e-commerce development is one of the key and consistent policies of the Party, State and Government to promote the advantages of modern distribution methods. Implementing Decision No. 645/QD-TTg dated May 15, 2020 of the Prime Minister on approving the National E-commerce Development Master Plan for the period 2021-2025, the Department of Industry and Trade has developed and proposed the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee to issue Decision No. 598/QD-UBND dated November 3, 2020 approving the e-commerce development plan of Gia Lai province for the period 2021-2025. In which, it sets out goals and many synchronous implementation solutions to support enterprises, cooperatives, and production and business establishments in the province to effectively deploy the application of e-commerce to promote brands, expand markets, and promote exports.
Typically, strengthening the capacity of technical infrastructure systems, payment infrastructure and logistics infrastructure to support e-commerce. Building systems for searching, tracing, and controlling the circulation of goods on the basis of solutions for electronic documents in commerce such as: Electronic traceability solutions for typical products of Gia Lai province at http://txng.gialai.vn.
In addition, the Department of Industry and Trade of Gia Lai province also develops solutions for sharing infrastructure between e-commerce service providers and retail distribution service providers, smart connection and sharing solutions between businesses and businesses, businesses and consumers, businesses and governments on mobile platforms, smart cards and big data.
Including the construction of e-commerce trading floors to support businesses participating in e-commerce applications in production and business activities such as: www.thuongmaigialai.vn, www.ocopgialai.vn, up to now, more than 300 businesses have participated in these floors. Building an online income collection and management system for Gia Lai import and export information at www.xnkgialai.gov.vn; Gia Lai Province Industry and Trade Database at http://csdlcntmgialai.gov to promptly and fully meet information requirements serving state management in the field of Industry and Trade, Online Map software of Vietnamese goods distribution system in the province at http://bandohangvietgialai.vn to serve the need to provide information for production, business and consumption of Vietnamese goods of businesses and people.
