The USD price fell slightly in early trading. The USD Index decreased by 0.07%. The market is still watching economic data to assess the next step of the US Federal Reserve. The US economic activity is still recovering, despite the highest interest rates in decades. Expectations of a rate cut in March are gradually decreasing, especially after comments from FED officials last week. Before that, the USD price established a series of increases for 2 consecutive weeks.

San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly believes the US economy and monetary policy are in “good shape” and it is too early to think about cutting interest rates.

According to the CME FedWatch tool, the probability of the Fed cutting interest rates in March is below 50%. The market is starting to think about the time of interest rate cut in May.

The market will be able to make a clearer judgment when the core personal consumption expenditure (PCE) price index is released later this week, said Chris Weston, head of research at online brokerage Pepperstone.

Analysts at NatWest Markets note that the USD price is likely to continue to be adjusted amid the threat of geopolitical conflicts in trade supply chains.

In Europe, the European Central Bank is expected to cut interest rates, but at a later date than the Fed, which is expected to cut interest rates five times this year.
