Gold price today June 19: Buying gold rings loses more than buying gold bars

Domestic gold prices remained stable despite the world continuing to fall as the US kept interest rates unchanged as expected.

On the morning of June 19, the price of gold bars at Saigon Jewelry Company - SJC continued to stand still at 117.6 million VND for buying and 119.6 million VND for selling. Similarly, the price of 4-number 9 gold rings at SJC remained unchanged compared to yesterday when they were still bought at 113.7 million VND and sold at 116.2 million VND; Phu Nhuan Jewelry Company (PNJ) also kept the same price of buying at 114 million VND and selling at 116.8 million VND; Doji Group bought at 115 million VND and sold at 117 million VND...

The difference between the buying and selling price of gold bars remains at 2 million VND/tael while that of gold rings is up to 2.5 - 2.6 million VND/tael. This causes buyers of gold rings to immediately lose more than gold bars.

The world gold price continued to fall to 3,376.5 USD/ounce after the US Federal Reserve (Fed) announced to keep interest rates unchanged as previously predicted by investors after the end of the policy meeting on June 18. Specifically, the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC, the Fed's policymaking body) kept the benchmark interest rate in the range of 4.25 - 4.5%. This is the interest rate that has been maintained since December 2024. The FOMC's policy statement did not change much compared to the meeting in May. The Committee said that in general, the US economy is still growing at a "solid pace", the unemployment rate is "low" and inflation is "slightly high".

At a press conference later, Fed Chairman Jerome Powell emphasized that policymakers are “well-positioned to wait” before making further moves on interest rates. Along with the rate decision, through the dot plot, FOMC officials said that they still expect to lower borrowing costs twice in the second half of this year. Although policymakers still expect to cut interest rates by a total of 0.5% this year, they have adjusted the rate of reduction to a slower pace in the following years, such as only 0.25% in 2026 and 2027.../.
