To address the unique challenges posed by the hot climate, renowned architect Norman Foster of Foster & Partners (UK) decided to eliminate some of the materials commonly used for high-rise buildings in the past. Instead, he integrated advanced shading and ventilation systems, clad the exterior of the tower cluster with marine-grade aluminum to protect the glass from harsh sunlight but still let in natural light. These special sunshades, which look similar to fish gills, are capable of reducing overall energy consumption.
