
Dien Bien Dong district currently has a population of over 70,700 people, mainly ethnic minorities (accounting for over 95%). The situation of early marriage and incestuous marriage in the area continues to occur. From 2021 to September 14, 2023, the whole district had 544 early marriage couples and 1 incestuous marriage case.
Deploying communication, advocacy, raising awareness, changing behavior in marriage to reduce child marriage and consanguineous marriage; from 2021 to August 30, 2023, the district organized 484 propaganda activities among ethnic minorities with over 16,500 people, in 13 communes and 1 town. The district distributed over 19,200 leaflets and documents providing information; counseling on child marriage and consanguineous marriage to over 14,200 people; built 15 pilot models and specialized models.

The monitoring delegation focused on discussing, exchanging, and clarifying a number of contents on management, inspection, evaluation, and annual review work; handling of early marriage and consanguineous marriage by local authorities; funding for implementing Sub-project 2 - Project 9 to propagate early marriage and consanguineous marriage among ethnic minorities; promoting the role of unions and the Fatherland Front in implementing tasks...
Head of the Ethnic Affairs Committee of the Provincial People's Council, Mua Thanh Son, suggested that Dien Bien Dong district continue to promote propaganda work; pay attention to implementing models on preventing child marriage; supplement data on propaganda activities and models deployed by the district's Health Department; strengthen inspection, supervision and urging of departments and offices in performing their tasks; include the goal of child marriage and consanguineous marriage in one of the targets and tasks of the resolution of the District People's Council.

Before that, the delegation had supervised the reality in Keo Lom commune. Here, the delegation members learned and clarified some difficulties, limitations and achievements in implementing communication, advocacy, raising awareness, changing behavior in marriage to reduce the situation of early marriage and incestuous marriage.
