Recently, in mid-March, the Department of Industry and Trade has developed a plan to develop and expand the consumption market for Binh Thuan dragon fruit products domestically and internationally in 2024.

Strengthening information and communication

The above plan is implemented to support enterprises, cooperatives, dragon fruit production and trading establishments in the province to develop and expand production of goods. At the same time, improve productivity, product quality, find sales partners as well as develop distribution channels, expand consumption markets for Binh Thuan dragon fruit products. In addition, promote exports, focusing on consolidating and expanding existing traditional markets associated with trade promotion to support enterprises in finding new, potential markets to consume products, increase export turnover...

Notably, this year's plan will focus on information and communication work such as advising people to develop dragon fruit areas in accordance with planning and market demand. Mobilizing people about the meaning and importance of producing dragon fruit according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards and implementing synchronously from production to packaging, processing and preservation facilities to be proactive in domestic consumption and export. Continuing to inform and propagate about international economic integration, free trade agreements (FTAs) that Vietnam has signed, benefits and opportunities from FTAs, requirements on origin of goods of countries... to help businesses grasp and take advantage of opportunities to develop the market and boost exports.

Develop promotional programs on mass media to promote and introduce product images, geographical indications of Binh Thuan dragon fruit, the benefits and uses of dragon fruit for consumers' health. Develop a specialized electronic information page "Binh Thuan dragon fruit" to serve propaganda, promotion, trade promotion, investment and provide market information, prices as well as an e-commerce trading floor for trading, buying and selling dragon fruit...

Actively support businesses

Regarding supporting businesses, localities and functional sectors will focus on improving production and business capacity and competitiveness such as opening training courses on production processes, preliminary processing, and packaging according to VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards to meet export requirements. On the other hand, it will also provide knowledge for dragon fruit production and trading enterprises on technical barriers in trade, intellectual property, geographical indications, standards, techniques, and product quality according to international standards. Next is to support businesses operating in this field to participate in conferences, seminars, training courses, export forums, international economic integration, and meetings with trade counselors... organized by trade promotion units.

To contribute to the development and expansion of the consumer market, this plan also proposes solutions to support relevant industry associations in registering for protection of the trademark and geographical indication "Binh Thuan" for dragon fruit in countries and territories. Promote the organization of inspection, appraisal, and issuance of certificates of use of the geographical indication "Binh Thuan Dragon Fruit" for organizations and individuals and supervise the use of the geographical indication "Binh Thuan" for dragon fruit when exporting to countries and territories that have agreed to protect it...

It is expected that this year, local enterprises will also be supported to develop and expand domestic and foreign markets through participation in the Asia Fruit Logistica 2024 Fruit and Vegetable Fair (phase 2) in September in Hong Kong under the National Trade Promotion Program 2024.
