Changing the exam subjects is an important new point in the admission plan for grade 10 of specialized high schools affiliated with universities in Hanoi in the 2025 admission season.
Accordingly, instead of each school having its own exam method, this year, all schools will take exams in 4 subjects, including 3 general subjects and 1 specialized subject.
The High School for the Gifted in Natural Sciences (University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) announced that this year the school will add one more subject requirement. Specifically, candidates will have to take three general subjects, including Math, Literature and English, instead of just two subjects, Math and Literature, as in previous years.
In which, Literature and English are conditional subjects, not counted in the admission score, candidates must have a minimum of 4 points for each subject. In addition to the 3 general subjects, candidates must take an additional specialized subject. The admission score is the total score of Math and the specialized subject multiplied by a coefficient of 2.
The school also stopped directly admitting candidates who won first prize in provincial-level excellent student competitions. Accordingly, this year's admissions will only have one method: entrance exams.
Similarly, this year, the High School for the Gifted in Social Sciences and Humanities (University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University, Hanoi) also has 4 exams including 3 general exams in Math, Literature, English and a specialized subject exam. This is a big change as in 2024, candidates only have to take 1 specialized subject exam. Candidates need to achieve a minimum of 4 points/general subject and 6 points/specialized subject to be eligible for admission. The admission score is the total score of the Literature exam and the specialized subject score multiplied by a coefficient of 2.
The Foreign Language Specialized High School (University of Foreign Languages, Hanoi National University) also suddenly changed the entire exam. In previous years, candidates had to take 3 aptitude tests, including the Foreign Language test (specialized subject, multiplied by 2), the Math and Natural Science test (multiplied by 1) and the Literature and Social Science test (multiplied by 1).
However, this year, candidates will take 4 exams like the 2 schools above, including 3 general exams (Math, Literature, English) and a specialized subject exam. Thus, compared to previous years, candidates will not have to take the Natural Science and Social Science exams, but all candidates will have to take the English exam. The admission score is the total score of the exam subjects on a 10-point scale, with the specialized subject having a coefficient of 2.
The High School for Gifted Students of the University of Education (Hanoi National University of Education) also added English to the group of common exam subjects, increasing the total number of exam subjects from 3 to 4, including 3 common subjects: Math, Literature, English and the specialized subject exam.
The school has 3 different ways of calculating scores for different specialized classes. Specifically, for specialized classes in Math, Information Technology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, the admission score is the sum of the Math score and the specialized subject score multiplied by a factor of 2.
For specialized Literature classes, the admission score is the Literature score plus the specialized subject score multiplied by a coefficient of 2.
For English specialized classes, the admission score is the sum of the English exam score and the specialized subject score multiplied by a coefficient of 2.
