Two wounded soldiers, one heart

Fighting to protect the Fatherland, leaving behind a part of their body on the battlefield, the soldiers of the past returned to normal life to continue to join hands in building a rich and beautiful homeland. The tireless dedication of the wounded soldiers is not only a shining example for today's generation to learn and follow, but also demonstrates the qualities according to Uncle Ho's teachings: "Wounded soldiers are disabled but not useless".

In 1985, young man Tran Van Tam (residing in Trung Hung 1B hamlet, Chau Thoi commune) volunteered to go to war to help Cambodia, was injured and lost a leg. When he returned to his hometown, Mr. Tam became a 3/4 disabled veteran. Neighbors loved him for his gentle nature, friendly lifestyle, and especially admired his will and determination to overcome the circumstances of a physically disabled veteran.

Despite his constant pain due to his injury, Mr. Tam works very hard. In addition to taking care of his vegetables, he also collects fish and rides his bicycle around the neighborhood to sell them for profit, improving his family's income.

Trusted by the local government and people, Mr. Tam joined the Veterans Association, the Farmers Association, and was elected Head of Trung Hung 1B Hamlet. In 2010, he resigned due to declining health. As a citizen, he actively participated in local movements. He carefully trimmed trees and ornamental flowers in front of his house, contributing to the beauty of the village; accompanied the locality in propaganda work to help people understand and join hands in implementing emulation movements.

Mr. Le Van Son, Head of Trung Hung 1B Hamlet, said: “Promoting the qualities of Uncle Ho’s soldiers, during his time working, no matter what position he held, Comrade Tam always did his best. For the community, in addition to building good village and neighborhood relationships, he also actively propagated, created consensus and support from the people, especially in the movement to build a new model rural area, implementing the two-level local government model.”

In Long Duc hamlet, Phuoc Long commune, almost everyone knows about war invalid Danh Van Thoai. People love him because during his 18 years working in the commune and hamlet, Mr. Thoai has always been a cadre who devoted himself to the people.

For many years now, the image of the war invalid - Head of the Veterans Association of the hamlet riding an old bicycle to knock on each house to propagate the Party and State's policies to the people has become familiar. Many people who have difficulty in handling administrative procedures have also been enthusiastically helped by him. Although life is still difficult, Mr. Thoai still regularly mobilizes donors to support rice and necessities for single households and people with disabilities.

With his contributions, Mr. Danh Van Thoai was awarded many certificates of merit by the Central Committee and the Provincial Party Standing Committee for his outstanding achievements in studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle.

“Learning from Uncle Ho the style of being close to the people, I often go to their homes to visit, encourage, grasp the thoughts and aspirations of the people, from there promptly convey them to the leaders, as well as have appropriate propaganda methods. In building new rural areas and moving towards new rural models, my family must be the pioneer in all tasks, only then will we be able to convince people to follow,” Mr. Thoai expressed.

Mr. Tran Van Tam and Mr. Danh Van Thoai are two of many shining examples of war invalids who have spent their whole lives studying and following Uncle Ho's teachings. Their contributions have and will continue to brighten the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the new era.
