The 2025 Do Son traditional buffalo fighting festival consists of two parts: ceremony and festival. The ceremony is held from September 22 to October 7 (ie from August 1 to 16 of the lunar calendar), including incense offering ceremony, flag raising ceremony, water procession ceremony, god worship ceremony; god worship ceremony; tutelary god procession ceremony; buffalo sacrifice ceremony; thanksgiving ceremony and god sending-off ceremony.
The festival takes place on September 30 (August 9 of the lunar calendar). 16 "buffaloes" are carefully cared for and raised with special moves and will give the audience intense and fierce fights.
According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Dien, Chairman of Do Son Ward People's Committee, this is a traditional folk festival, associated with the long-standing custom of worshiping the water god and sacrificing animals of the people of Do Son coastal area.
The festival preserves the spiritual and cultural activities, the cultural identity of the community, expressing the martial spirit of the people of Do Son with the aspiration to conquer nature, master the sea, pray for favorable weather, bountiful crops, national peace and prosperity, and a prosperous and happy life for the people.

The festival has an intersection between agricultural cultural elements of the delta region and cultural elements of coastal residents, demonstrating the diversity in Vietnamese culture and folk beliefs and closely linked to the length of history and development of the land and people of Do Son.
According to Mr. Dien, after 36 years of restoration and development, the traditional Do Son buffalo fighting festival still retains the folk elements and traditional cultural values left by our ancestors.
To prepare for the festival, right after the Lunar New Year, the fighting rings send experienced people to all localities in the country and Southeast Asia to buy buffaloes.

The "buffaloes" participating in the festival are carefully selected and trained, demonstrating bravery and are symbols of strength and martial spirit of coastal people.
"Of the 16 'buffaloes' participating in the 2025 festival, there are 3 buffaloes imported from Thailand: buffalo number 01, buffalo number 10 and buffalo number 15.
However, the 13 domestic 'buffaloes' are not inferior to imported buffaloes in terms of physical strength, promising to have dramatic and exciting 'boxing matches' - said the leader of Do Son ward.
According to Tuoi Tre Online , from early morning, tens of thousands of Do Son residents and tourists from all over were present to cheer for the "buffaloes" and witness the beautiful matches.
Security and safety at the stadium are also given special attention. The police force works hard to regulate traffic, helping people to get to the stadium conveniently and safely.
In addition, the stadium is also equipped with a sturdy fence, allowing visitors to fully watch the most exciting matches, ensuring safety.

Increase the prize level of buffalo fighting
In 2025, the festival organizing committee adjusted the prize level for the winning buffaloes in the festival compared to previous years.
Specifically, first prize is 100 million VND (increased by 30 million VND); second prize: 70 million VND (increased by 30 million VND); third prize: 30 million VND (increased by 10 million VND/prize).
