Donate land to pave the way for homeland development

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - The ancients have a saying "every inch of land is worth an inch of gold", land is a valuable asset. Although donating land is not an easy decision when people's lives are still difficult, "cutting" away a part of the land left by their ancestors is also a concern for many people, but Ms. Le Thi Thuy, a member of the Women's Union of Village 9, Tho Ngoc Commune, decided to donate land after the union held a meeting to disseminate the policy of donating land for rural roads and new rural development.

Pointing to the area of ​​land her family donated, Ms. Thuy said: "This is one of the most beautiful roads in the village, because this road has the consensus of the villagers, including my family, who together donated land and contributed to expand it, rebuild the fence, plant flowers and trees."

According to Ms. Thuy, in the past, the village road was narrow and difficult to travel. At the association meeting on March 8 last year, the association announced the policy of donating land to widen the road, many members were very excited, because they thought that the widening of the road would open up opportunities to escape poverty for the people here. However, some households were hesitant at first, Ms. Thuy herself was also a bit worried because that was the land she had been attached to for many years, the place where her family grew crops to increase production, on the land there were also newly built family buildings. If she donated the land, she would have to invest in rebuilding, which would be quite expensive.

Ms. Thuy shared: "Everyone needs benefits, but building roads to serve the people, serve your own family, and contribute to the general economic development of the locality is even more necessary." With that simple thought, Ms. Thuy discussed with her family and decided to inform the association and the branch committee to donate land on the afternoon of March 8. Her family dismantled more than 100m in length, on the land with a newly built fence, worth 50 million VND, to donate land for rural roads.

After her family donated land, many surrounding families also agreed to demolish the fence and donate land to widen the road. In addition, Ms. Thuy also joined the association and the village front working committee to go to every alley, knock on every door to propagate and mobilize the people and women members to understand the purpose, meaning and importance of donating land to widen the road, which is to promote socio-economic development as well as the lives of the people. At first, many families still did not agree, some households were afraid of affecting their rights and livelihoods; some households did not agree among family members, some households waited for compensation from the State... but with perseverance, "slow and steady wins the race", gradually seeing the surrounding households donating land, the roads to the village were gradually widened, the households changed their thinking and supported the movement.

After 2 years of launching the movement of donating land to expand roads, Ms. Thuy and her association mobilized more than 100 members to donate over 1,000m2 of land, 600m of fence worth hundreds of millions of VND; 5 roads with a length of 8,450m, the roadbed was widened to 6.5m, completed and put into use in the joy and excitement of the people. Now, the village roads are spacious, cars can go right to the door of the house, the face of the countryside has clearly improved.

The movement of donating land for rural roads is not simply a matter of widening roads, but also an opportunity for each citizen to demonstrate their responsibility, love for their homeland and community solidarity. The donated land is a testament to the belief in positive change on the journey of building a civilized, modern, beautiful and meaningful new rural area.
