Coach Pep Guardiola affirms Man City's innocence before Premier League sanctions

"I have not changed my opinion on the 115 charges of violating financial regulations against Man City. But everyone wants Man City to be punished, relegated or to play in the Conference League. If they decide to punish me, I will still work at Man City regardless of which division I play in," coach Pep Guardiola firmly declared, in a press conference before Man City's match against Liverpool at Etihad Stadium on November 25.

"People are linking the case of Everton (who were deducted 10 points for violating Financial Fair Play rules) with Man City. I will not say anything about Everton, because I do not know what is happening there. But Everton and Man City are two completely different cases. Until now, we are completely innocent. Let's wait for them (the Premier League) to decide, then we will come here to explain to you (the British media). The lawyers will defend before the judge if there is a verdict," coach Pep Guardiola shared.

In February this year, Man City Club was accused by the Premier League of violating up to 115 financial regulations in 14 Premier League seasons from the 2009-2010 season to the previous season 2022-2023.

This incident was rekindled after Everton FC was recently announced by the Premier League's Independent Commission to be penalized with a 10-point deduction on November 17, for violating the Financial Fair Play rules with profit and sustainability rules in the final stage of the 2021-2022 season. "Everton was determined to have lost 124.5 million pounds in this period, exceeding the allowable threshold of 105 million pounds," according to the announcement from the Premier League.

"Everton's violation is only 1, while Man City's is 115 accusations of violating financial regulations, but so far this team has not been punished. If Everton has been punished, the Premier League must severely punish Man City to bring fairness", former player Jamie Carragher (of Liverpool FC) once shared his opinion on Sky Sports channel.

This contrast promises to bring great heat to the big match between Man City and Liverpool on November 25, with heated debates on British television channels and newspapers.
