In the preliminary list of 34 players preparing for the 2023 Asian Cup, Coach Troussier did not call up two players Ho Tan Tai and Bui Tien Dung. However, the French coach changed his decision at the last minute.

Accordingly, Coach Troussier has called up these two additional players, bringing the team's number to 35. Recently, the French coach has given a chance to midfielder Pham Van Luan of the Hanoi Police Club.
Previously, the French coach did not call Ho Tan Tai to the national team during the FIFA Days in October and November. The absence of the full-back, who plays for the Hanoi Police Club, was a controversial topic in the press. However, before the Asian tournament, coach Troussier wanted to test Ho Tan Tai.
Before the 2023 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese team suffered many losses when many players were injured. Thanh Chung left the team early after talking about his injury situation with coach Troussier.
Midfielder Hoang Van Toan also left the team for the same reason. In addition, players Van Lam, Ngoc Hai, Duy Manh, Hoang Duc, Tien Linh are also racing against time to participate in the tournament.

Being promoted to the national team by the French coach this time is a valuable opportunity for Ho Tan Tai and Bui Tien Dung to prove themselves, to compete for a place at the 2023 Asian Cup. According to the regulations of the Organizing Committee, each team is allowed to register 26 players. Therefore, Coach Troussier will eliminate 9 players from the preliminary list.
Today (December 31), the Vietnam national team will gather at the VFF Youth Training Center. The whole team will leave for Qatar on January 5, 2024 and have a friendly match with Kyrgyzstan on January 9.
At the 2023 Asian Cup, the Vietnamese team is in Group D with Japan, Iraq and Indonesia. In the upcoming tournament, Coach Troussier's team will face Japan (6:30 p.m. on January 14, 2024), Indonesia (9:30 p.m. on January 19), and Iraq (6:30 p.m. on January 24).
