On the afternoon of August 8, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, answering reporters' questions about the situation in the Middle East, Myanmar and Bangladesh as well as the protection of Vietnamese citizens in these areas, Deputy Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Doan Khac Viet said that the situation of Vietnamese citizens in the Middle East, especially Israel, Iran and Lebanon, is still safe and stable.

Faced with the continuing complex tensions in the Middle East, on August 5, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a warning to Vietnamese citizens not to travel to Lebanon, Iran and Israel at this time.

If citizens are in the above area, especially in Lebanon, they need to evacuate people and property to third countries or return to Vietnam as well as comply with regulations and instructions on safety and security measures as instructed by local authorities.

The same is true regarding citizen protection in Bangladesh. Given the complicated situation in Bangladesh, on August 7, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also issued recommendations, notices, and warnings to Vietnamese citizens to consider not going to Bangladesh at this time.

Citizens in Bangladesh must also be aware of protecting themselves and their families and avoid crowded areas where protests are likely to occur.

Regarding citizen protection in Myanmar, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs continues to advise Vietnamese citizens not to go to areas with complicated developments, such as Shan State and Kayin State of Myanmar, unless absolutely necessary. And if citizens are in those areas, they should quickly have proactive plans to safely evacuate people and property to safe areas or to Vietnam.

Mr. Doan Khac Viet also said that implementing the direction of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Vietnamese Embassy in the Middle East as well as in Bangladesh and Myanmar has also requested local authorities to ensure maximum safety for Vietnamese citizens.

At the same time, Vietnamese representative agencies need to proactively develop and deploy citizen protection plans when necessary. Vietnamese representative agencies also need to continue to maintain close contact, increase propaganda, advise and support citizens to move to safe areas.

“We also remind our citizens in the above countries to regularly monitor information and recommendations from local authorities and warnings from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as Vietnamese representative agencies in the above countries to respond promptly.

In case citizens in the above areas need assistance, please contact the citizen protection hotlines of Vietnamese representative agencies in other countries or the citizen protection hotline of the Consular Department (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) which we still post on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs: +84 981 84 84 84,” Mr. Doan Khac Viet emphasized./.
