Early season grapefruit flowers cost up to half a million VND/kg but still attract customers in Hanoi

TPO - In recent days, grapefruit flowers have begun to be sold on the streets of Hanoi . Although they are a rural flower, they have become an expensive commodity, even more expensive than imported flowers.

After Tet, grapefruit gardens in Van Giang ( Hung Yen ) or Thach That, Dien (Hanoi)... start pruning their flowers. This is the time when grapefruit flowers are brought to the streets by vendors to sell for profit.

Along the streets of Xa Dan, Pham Ngoc Thach, Giang Vo... or the traditional markets of Hanoi, there are now shops selling early season grapefruit flowers at high prices.

Ms. Hoa (30 years old, Hung Yen) said that she has been selling grapefruit flowers for ten years in Hanoi. This morning she brought 8 kg of grapefruit flowers to sell, and when they are gone, she will come back to get more. The grapefruit flower season usually lasts from around the 10th to the end of the first lunar month. Whenever it rains or is humid, many people like to buy this type of flower to keep in the house for fragrance.

Most people buy grapefruit flowers to burn incense and go to pagodas, especially on the full moon day of the first lunar month.

According to sellers, among the grapefruit flowers sold on the market, Dien grapefruit flowers are the most expensive, from 500,000 VND/kg. However, because of this price, the flowers sell less well than sour grapefruit flowers, so few people import them to sell.

Average grapefruit flowers cost from 250,000-350,000 VND/kg, depending on the type, and if you meet a "big" customer, you can be "asked" for 450,000-500,000 VND/kg.

Ms. Nhung (Ba Dinh, Hanoi) said: "Grapefruit flowers only have one season, so I take the opportunity to buy flowers to put on the altar to burn incense on the full moon of January. In addition to the flowers on the altar, I also buy a bunch of grapefruit flowers, put them in a short vase in the living room to make the whole house fragrant."

Grapefruit flowers are often bought to worship at pagodas, burn incense, make tea, use as perfume, arrange for fragrance or wash hair.

Although the price is quite high, grapefruit flowers are still very popular, many customers buy them to send to the South or abroad.

In Hanoi, each season has its own flower display. After Tet, when peach blossoms have faded and apricot blossoms have withered, people in the capital prefer to display grapefruit flowers until the end of January.
