This September, two artists Pham Xuan Trung and Dang Huu will meet at the exhibition “Neo” at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum. Two personalities, two differences, but a common desire to anchor reality through painting.
Dang Huu is still a follower of the post-impressionist style, with a direct drawing style and a priority for capturing the moment. In the past decade, he has had quite a rich experience with materials from gouache, oil paint and lacquer. But no matter what the material, he is still steadfast with the rich color palette and the rhythms of emotions.
Looking at his paintings, one can see a vibrant visual musicality flowing through the free-flowing brushstrokes, the spontaneous resonance of tones and light, creating a world rich in painterly qualities.

The reality in Huu's paintings gradually shifts from detail to simplicity, towards abstraction, emphasizing personal emotions more than simulating reality.
According to artist Dang Huu, he does not recreate the landscape but recreates the feeling, so that viewers not only see the scene, but also feel the rhythm of life, the breath, and the vibration of the moment in the painting.
For artist Pham Xuan Trung, he has a big transformation at “Neo.”
For nearly 10 years, he has made his mark in painting through the description of spatial architecture and landscape, with a close narrative perspective.
In the past three years, Pham Xuan Trung has made clear movements. It is still a depiction of reality, but the artist's perspective has changed. He has moved from recording universal reality with aesthetic qualities to reconstructing the shape of reality through a personal perspective.

The artist has a meticulous observation and is faithful to real life. He depicts memories, reality is still the main material, but has been reorganized with a new perspective, richer in rhythm and compression than before, with a combination of realism and plasticity.
Representative of the organizing unit - ART30 Gallery, Ms. Tu Mai said that the combination of the two artists opens up an interesting dialogue: “Trung anchors memories and nostalgia, Huu anchors emotions and moments. One side is compression, order and structure; the other side is freedom, intuition and movement. One is open, one is meticulous. 'Neo' provides two different painting perspectives on the same subject, theme, and places them side by side to reveal their nature. This is also the transparency and frankness of the two artists.”

Sharing with reporters from VietnamPlus Electronic Newspaper, artist Dang Huu said the exhibition is an artistic dialogue between two friends, two kindred spirits in painting.
They also share a passion for direct drawing, often accompanying each other on outdoor painting trips. From practical experiences, sketching, direct drawing, they return to their studio, developing their works with personal emotions and thoughts. That is why “Neo” has two different painting styles but has many similarities in inspiration and themes, bringing interesting artistic experiences to the public.
The exhibition “Neo” opens at 5:30 p.m. on September 12 and will run from September 12 to September 17 at the Vietnam Museum of Fine Arts, 66 Nguyen Thai Hoc, Hanoi./ .
