Students play the role of nannies to learn to love work.

To help elementary school students appreciate hard work and learn the spirit of self-service, every noon, two students will take turns playing the role of nanny to divide food portions for their classmates.

Today, November 26, Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School, Da Kao Ward, District 1, Ho Chi Minh City, began organizing a series of Open House days - Open School, welcoming parents to class with their children, and having lunch with their children. At lunchtime for the 4th graders, two students named Anh Tho and Nha Vy (class 4/7) were excited to wear aprons, hats, gloves, and masks like the nanny.

"The nanny is too hard"

Today it was the turn of these two children to divide food portions for the other children in the class, just like the nanny does every day. Standing next to them, Ms. Ngo Ngoc Mai, the nanny in charge of classes 4/6 and 4/7, guided and supported the two little "nannies".

Although this was only the second time they played the role of nannies, Anh Tho and Nha Vy proved to be very proficient in dividing rice, soup, stir-fried food, and salty food for the students in the correct portions and quantities. Students in the class will line up to get rice in order. Students who eat slowly and are underweight will be given priority to get rice and food first. Then, overweight students will be given vegetable soup first, and their food portions will also have less starch. One person gets rice, one person gets salty food, stir-fried food, the two "nannies" Anh Tho and Nha Vy coordinate smoothly.

After trying out the role of babysitter for about 20 minutes, the two students returned their things to Ms. Ngoc Mai, washed their hands, and returned to their tables to eat their lunch. At the end of lunchtime, each student had to clean up their own bowls, spoons, and plates. In addition, many boys also took turns helping the babysitter clean the tables, chairs, and wipe the plates to keep them clean and tidy.

"Only when you come to school and eat with your children can you see how hard the teachers and nannies work. Teaching, caring for, and managing a class of dozens of children is not easy," said Quynh Tram, Anh Tho's mother, one of the parents who came to eat lunch with their children at the Open House today.

Ms. Quynh Tram was not surprised to see her daughter very bold and proficient in the steps of practicing being a nanny, dividing food portions for her friends. "I always believe that children need to work according to their strength. Anh Tho and her sister also help their mother clean the house, clean the room, help their mother set the table when they are at home... so when I see my daughter know how to work, know how to serve herself and can support the teachers in class in tasks suitable to her ability, I am very happy," said Ms. Quynh Tram.

Teachers believe that when children work from small jobs, they gradually learn many good skills and lessons.

Educating children about the spirit of love of work

Ms. Tran Thi Thu Huong, Principal of Dinh Tien Hoang Primary School, District 1, said that since the beginning of the school year, the school has shared and agreed with parents that during their time at school, in addition to class, students will participate in many educational activities to raise awareness and self-service spirit of students. The activities contribute to educating children to love work, to appreciate the efforts of nannies and those who are helping them have a safe and clean learning environment. From there, children will have awareness of protecting the environment and respecting the people around them.

"For the past 5 years, students from each class have been encouraged to take turns being a nanny, or taking turns helping her clean up tables and chairs, wipe dishes after meals, and prepare for nap time. Students from grade 1 have been able to participate. Some days during the year, they also participate in cleaning the school yard with teachers and school staff. Parents all agree and say that their children learn many good things from these activities," said Ms. Thu Huong.

After lunch, the students took turns helping the nanny clear the tables and chairs and wipe the dishes.

Ms. Thu Huong added that every year the school organizes Open House days to invite parents to visit the school, classrooms, facilities, observe their children's classes, observe lunchtime and eat lunch with their children. This year, Open House not only takes place on November 26 but also spreads out over other days, to make it easier for other parents to participate.

"We hope that this open activity will help parents better understand the curriculum as well as the process of their children being cared for and taught at school, the meal organization process and the quality of the boarding meals. From there, parents will better understand the hard work and dedication of the teachers and join the school in educating and caring for their children," Ms. Thu Huong shared.
