Student hospitalized, revealing unusual school incident

According to the reflection of Ms. H. (residing in Ea Tu commune, Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak), she and many other parents were very upset that Mac Thi Buoi Primary School did not buy health insurance cards for their children, causing the students to lose their rights when going to see a doctor or getting medical treatment.

Ms. H. shared that at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year, she paid 632,000 VND to the secretary of Mac Thi Buoi Primary School to buy a one-year health insurance card for her child. At this time, although the school did not issue new health insurance cards, Ms. H. thought that when going to the doctor, she only needed to bring the old health insurance card and the card number to be valid.

Last July, Ms. H. took her child to see a doctor and was told by the doctor to be hospitalized for treatment, but the hospital informed her that her child's health insurance card had expired 7 months ago. Thinking that the hospital had made a mistake, Ms. H. insisted that she had paid in full for the health insurance card, but the hospital insisted that the card had expired.

"Because I was worried about my child's condition, I agreed to pay the entire hospital fee of more than 3 million VND for my child's treatment. After that, I went to the school to ask and was informed that the school's secretary did not pay for health insurance card renewals for many students, including my child. This action has affected the legitimate rights of our children," Ms. H. was upset.

It is known that when parents came to the school to request clarification of the matter, the clerk took responsibility for the late payment for the students and promised to buy health insurance cards for the students from August (the time when it was discovered that health insurance cards were not purchased for the students) to December this year.

For the period of not paying health insurance from August onwards, the office is making a list to return the money to the parents of students.

Regarding the incident, Mr. Pham Dinh Lai, Principal of Mac Thi Buoi Primary School, confirmed that the school is urgently handling the purchase of health insurance for students.

According to Mr. Lai, the cause of the incident was that the school's secretary and treasurer was late in purchasing health insurance cards for students.

"When discovered, the school instructed the secretary to immediately filter out the cases of students who missed out on buying cards and refund the money for the months when they were not paid for health insurance. The school will handle those who did wrong according to regulations," said Mr. Lai.

The principal of Mac Thi Buoi Primary School informed that for students who paid to buy health insurance cards but were not purchased by the clerk, and during the time they did not have a card, they went to the doctor or were hospitalized, incurring expenses, the female clerk is responsible for compensating the entire amount.

According to investigation, 87 students of Mac Thi Buoi Primary School paid for health insurance cards for the school since the previous school year but the school did not buy the cards.

Speaking to Dan Tri reporter, Mr. Nguyen Huu Luat, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Buon Ma Thuot city, said that the unit had just received a report from Mac Thi Buoi Primary School about the delay in purchasing health insurance cards for students and had directed the school to urgently resolve the issue to ensure the rights of students in medical examination and treatment.

According to Mr. Luat, the Department of Education and Training of Buon Ma Thuot city will closely monitor the remediation work of Mac Thi Buoi Primary School.
