Every time Tet comes, journalists gather together to talk about the history of the Spring Newspaper Festival as a source of pride. Journalist Nguyen Uyen - former Head of the Association's Working Committee, Vietnam Journalists Association (VNJAA) said: On the morning of the second day of the Lunar New Year in the year of Tan Mui (1991), the Association's leaders welcomed General Secretary Do Muoi to wish them a Happy New Year at the headquarters at 59 Ly Thai To and visited the Tet Newspaper and Magazine Exhibition at the Cultural House at 12 Ly Dao Thanh.

After reporting on the results of the press serving the cause of national renewal, the leaders of the Association proposed that the General Secretary allow the Vietnam Journalists Association to coordinate with the relevant departments and branches to hold the Spring Press Festival annually. Listening to the report on the purpose and method of holding the Spring Press Festival, it is mainly to compete in making beautiful and good newspapers; to spread the role of journalism; to collect and send press publications to soldiers on the border and islands... The General Secretary gave his permission, saying firmly: Do it. Do it well from the coming Tet!...

The Tet Newspaper Festival - Spring Newspaper Festival officially opened on the occasion of the Year of the Monkey - 1992 at the Press Center No. 12 Ly Dao Thanh...a year with a very special astronomical event. That was the first day of the Lunar New Year coincided with the beginning of spring (February 4, 1992). This also meant that the Party's birthday fell on the 30th of Tet (February 3). This uniqueness created a double, exciting inspiration for the press to compete in making beautiful newspapers, good newspapers, and wrapping them in a special issue. The first Spring Newspaper Festival that year attracted hundreds of newspapers to participate. The following year's Tet also opened at this Center, with up to 500 newspapers, with 12 booths, of which 11 booths belonged to the local Journalists Association. Every time the Newspaper Festival opened, the General Secretary, Prime Minister... all attended.

After the Vietnam Journalists Association organized the first Spring Press Festival, local Journalists Associations nationwide also organized Spring Press Festivals at the provincial level. More than 30 years have passed, and to this day, the Spring Press Festival is still maintained and promoted as a beautiful cultural feature of journalists. At the Spring Press Festivals of provinces and cities, all levels of Journalists Associations assign branches to design and display publications in the spring press booths of their branches and agencies. Spring press publications, radio and television programs or Tet holidays are now always indispensable dishes for the press public every time Tet comes and spring comes.

And very early, press agencies have proactively built and implemented plans for making Tet newspapers, eagerly releasing the most special publications of the year. In the editorial office's plan for making Tet newspapers, there is always a part to increase the number of newspapers dedicated to serving the Spring Newspaper Festival. To have a good Tet newspaper, it seems that press agencies are secretly competing with each other to gain the highest appreciation from the press public, especially those attending the Spring Newspaper Festival - the first readers, the most impartial judges when "scoring" each newspaper and article.

These days, many provinces and cities have been bustling with the atmosphere of preparing for the Spring Press Festival - a meaningful cultural activity to welcome the new year. In each locality, the theme of the Spring Press Festival shows the regional characteristics, the important highlights that the press has focused on promoting over the past year. This shows that the elaborate investment of each unit, especially the local Journalists Associations at all levels, has constantly learned, innovated, and created, contributing to enhancing the position of the Journalists Associations at all levels in the province and city...

The vibrant, rich and colorful atmosphere in many localities, the Spring Press Fair has created a panoramic picture of the press, which is also a reflection of the socio-economic situation of each region over the past year. It can be said that through the Spring Press Fair, we can clearly see that the press has sketched a fairly comprehensive picture of the political, economic, cultural and social situation of the whole country, the New Year messages of the Party and State leaders, the atmosphere of "Celebrating the Party, Celebrating Spring" , welcoming the joyful and happy spring of people in all regions.

Not only brilliant through Tet publications, nowadays, together with HNBVN, many provinces and cities when organizing the Spring Newspaper Festival have activities to evaluate the journalistic skills of members through press awards, competitions and summarizing and scoring, awarding prizes for spring newspaper covers, spring articles, pictures, Tet couplets... and many meaningful activities. These are activities of giving gifts to policy families, the poor; scholarships for poor students overcoming difficulties; Tet booths...

In Hung Yen, every year there is a New Year gala event with activities such as: Voting for 10 Hung Yen press events, composing spring poems, Tet couplets, performing arts programs... In Thai Binh, the Provincial Journalists Association coordinates with the Department of Industry and Trade to combine the Spring newspaper display with the Tet fair to serve the people. In Bac Giang, within the framework of the Spring Newspaper Festival, there are activities that attract a large public such as chess competitions, press seminars, Tang poetry festivals...

Not only is it a "destination" for exchanging and displaying products together, the Spring Press Festival is also an opportunity to organize competitions to honor impressive works in the past year. This honor is through competitions and awards for journalists with good press works, press agencies with positive contributions in carrying out political tasks to give cadres, party members, and readers an overall view of the innovation and development of the press. For example, every year at the Hanoi Spring Press Festival, the Organizing Committee awards the authors who won the Ngo Tat To Press Award. Or the Nghe An Province Spring Press Festival every year is an opportunity to honor outstanding works that won the provincial "Golden Hammer and Sickle" Award...

It can be said that the Spring Press Festival every year is a great occasion for journalists, members and journalists from provinces and cities across the country. The Festival is a day to meet, exchange and acknowledge the efforts, intelligence and creativity of writers. From there, it is also for provincial and city leaders and local public to better understand the contributions of the press to the construction and development of the locality. The Spring Press Festival "spreads its fragrance" in all regions of the country, marking the efforts of all levels of the Journalists' Association.
