The Israeli military also said that after sirens were sounded in Tel Aviv and across central Israel early Friday morning, its air defenses intercepted a surface-to-surface ballistic missile fired by Houthi forces in Yemen.
According to the Israeli military, the rocket was shot down "outside the national border" by the Arrow 3 long-range air defense system.

The Arrow 3 system is designed to destroy ballistic missiles while they are still outside the atmosphere. Due to the exoatmospheric interception, sirens were activated across the area and the warning was given mainly due to concerns about shrapnel falling from the interception.
There were no reports of direct impact from shrapnel and no one was directly injured by falling debris. However, the Magen David Adom emergency center said a 17-year-old girl suffered minor injuries when she was hit by a car during the attack.
The Houthis have launched missiles and drones into Israel and targeted ships in the Red Sea in recent months in a show of support for Palestinians in Gaza. On Thursday, Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi said the group was also targeting Israel in solidarity with Lebanon.

The US military has often been at the forefront of operations against the Houthis to protect shipping, conducting airstrikes on several targets in Yemen in response to sometimes deadly Houthi attacks.
But in July, the Israeli military also carried out its first direct airstrike against the Houthis in Yemen. Israeli fighter jets bombed a Houthi-controlled port, killing several fighters, after the Houthis launched a drone attack on Tel Aviv that killed one person.
