On November 17, TASS news agency quoted military spokesman of the Houthi movement in Yemen, Yahya Sarea, as saying that this force attacked the Jaffa area near Tel Aviv and the Israeli city of Ashkelon.

On his personal Telegram channel, Mr. Sarea stated that the Houthi drones "accurately attacked the above targets."

After escalating the conflict in the Gaza Strip, Houthis warned of attacking Israeli territory and banned its ships from passing through the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait until the Middle Eastern country stopped its military campaign against Hamas forces in the Palestinian territories.

Since mid-November, the Houthis have attacked dozens of civilian ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

In response to this Houthi action, the US government announced the formation of an international coalition and prepared for an operation codenamed “Prosperity Guardian”, which is expected to ensure freedom of navigation and protect shipping in the Red Sea. Since then, the US and the UK have regularly carried out airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen.

Also related to the situation in the Middle East, on the same day, the Turkish daily Milliyet reported that Israeli President Isaac Herzog was said to be unable to go to Azerbaijan to attend the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) due to Turkey's refusal to open its airspace.

In early November, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that Ankara would sever diplomatic relations with Israel and had no intention of taking any measures to restore relations in the future.
