Justin Rose erased a three-stroke lead in the last five holes to surpass Tommy Fleetwood – who has consistently led the 2025 St. Jude Championship.

The result came thanks to a breakthrough with four consecutive birdies that Rose won on holes 14-17 at TPC Southwind course in Memphis, Tennessee.

Rose had a chance to win the FedEx St. Jude Championship – the first leg of the 2025 FedEx Cup playoff – but only kept par on the 18th hole. He missed the birdie.

“I played fantastic golf at the end… very satisfying,” said the 45-year-old British-South African golfer.

It was this breakthrough that sent Rose into a shootout with JJ Spaun to decide the FedEx St. Jude Championship.

After the first two holes of the playoff were tied, Rose won with a birdie on the third extra hole – with a putt from 10 feet.

The Memphis contest ended with a record 26th professional title for Rose – including 12 PGA Tour titles.

This is also Rose's first PGA Tour win in two and a half years. His last title was the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in February 2023.

This title brought Rose 3.6 million USD – equivalent to 94.3 billion VND – in the 20 million USD prize fund from sponsor FedEx.

More importantly, Rose returned to the top 10 of the world rankings. This achievement helps him secure a place in the 2025 Ryder Cup with the European team.

For his part, Spaun lost the playoffs but still had a memorable tournament. For the first time in his career, he became a member of the American Ryder Cup team.

Fleetwood, on the other hand, once again missed out on a PGA Tour title despite having plenty of chances to win.

Fleetwood led by two strokes with three holes remaining, but bogeyed holes 16 and 17, then teed off in a bunker on hole 18.

With this result, Fleetwood tied for third place with Scottie Scheffler – the world's number 1 golfer, continuing his streak of 12 consecutive tournaments without finishing outside the top 8.

The FedEx Cup Play-offs continue with the BMW Championship round 2 this weekend at Caves Valley (Owings Mills, Maryland) – featuring the top 50 ranked golfers and an unchanged prize fund.
