With his love and passion for journalism, Professor Ta Ngoc Tan has long nurtured the idea and begun writing portraits of some typical Vietnamese revolutionary journalists, and Historical Witness is the first book to realize this idea, based on a synthesis of Professor Ta Ngoc Tan's research from the 1990s to the present.
Uncle Ho - journalist Ho Chi Minh , the founder of Vietnam's revolutionary journalism, is the first Vietnamese journalist to be introduced in this book. The following journalists are arranged by date, month, and year of birth to make it easier for readers to follow the flow of history, respectively: Huynh Thuc Khang, Ngo Tat To, Nguyen An Ninh, Tran Huy Lieu, Truong Chinh, Phan Thanh, Hai Trieu, Vo Nguyen Giap, Xuan Thuy, Huynh Tan Phat, Quang Dam, Duong Tu Giang, Luu Quy Ky, Hoang Tung, Tran Lam, Thep Moi, Tran Bach Dang.
Professor Dr. Ta Ngoc Tan said that writing about journalists and their careers, especially those who work in journalism for the sake of revolution and politics , is never an easy task.
The author of the book "Witnesses of History" Professor Dr. Ta Ngoc Tan said that in the historical process of the nation, the press is not only a witness reflecting history, but also a force participating in all historical events, a driving force promoting the movement of all areas of social life, a force contributing to the achievements in the revolutionary struggle, progress in society and achievements in construction and development.
Journalists are the owners, the ones who directly create and promote the development of journalism. They are also historical figures, revolutionaries, soldiers who were present on the front lines fighting the enemy or in imperialist prisons, and some even fell in the fight for independence, freedom, and for the noble revolutionary ideal.
"During the process of researching, teaching and participating in journalism, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to contact, read, collect and preserve many documents related to journalists, from research documents, memoirs, to articles, newspapers and magazines. From admiration for the talent and personality, respect for the historical and professional values that senior journalists left behind, and partly because of professional work, since the early 90s of the last century, I have started to research and write about the portraits of some journalists", Prof. Dr. Ta Ngoc Tan shared.
