Having heard of her for a long time, I finally had the chance to visit Ms. Xi's vermicelli soup shop, located in alley 571, Cach Mang Thang Tam Street (District 10). Is the reality as rumored?
Diners must "take advantage"
We heard that if we arrived late at Ms. Xi's shop, we would most likely go home hungry, so we arrived just after 11am, when the shop had just opened. Surprisingly, there was already a long line of customers waiting for the owner.
Ms. Xi's restaurant sells at affordable prices and has been loved by customers for 30 years.
According to observations, most of the customers here are neighbors, people living in the alley as well as employees of the surrounding offices, some of whom have been regular customers for more than ten years. The aroma from the pot of broth wafted through the small alley, making my stomach rumble a bit.
Mrs. Dung (58 years old) was enjoying her favorite crab noodle soup. Seeing me asking her a question, the customer smiled and said that the owner had been selling the dish for as many years as she had been eating, because she had always been a resident of this alley.
“Eating here requires time. The owner sells, if it's expensive, it will last 1 hour, if it's slow, it will be sold out in 2 hours. If you come late, it will be sold out, watch out for going home hungry or not getting the portion you like. That's why I come here every lunchtime on time. I've been eating here for decades, I'm addicted," said Ms. Dung.
Simple noodle soup but many customers love it.

Pointing to the bowl of noodles she bought for 25,000 VND, she said the owner here is very nice, they also sell it for 10,000 VND or 15,000 VND. She loves the broth with sweet dried shrimp and the crab soup that the owner prepares, which is rich and delicious.
Hearing what Mrs. Dung said, we immediately ordered. It was delicious! Soft and chewy noodles served with crab paste, tomatoes, dried shrimp, tofu and raw vegetables, plus the hot, rich broth, it was truly an interesting culinary experience. With this price and flavor, I give it 8.5/10, it will definitely be my "favorite restaurant" in the near future.
With a full stomach, I asked the owner: "You cook so well, do you have any special secret?" After listening, Ms. Xi laughed happily and said: "There is no secret, my dear! I cook like everyone else. Back then, I learned and cooked by myself, and only by teaching the profession could I have the complete recipe like now. Now, I cook without any seasoning, it still suits the customers' taste, I'm used to it."
Ends early
It was called a restaurant, but in reality it was a small stall with a few tables and plastic chairs for customers to sit on. It suddenly started to rain, and I thought to myself, “She probably won’t be able to sell out early today!” But I was wrong!
Each portion of noodles costs 25,000 VND, customers buy 10,000 VND, the owner also sells 15,000 VND.
It was pouring rain, but customers still came in droves. Before 12 o'clock, the owner's pot of broth was almost empty. Today, the owner sold a lot, sold out in 1 hour. Many late customers had to sadly leave.
Ms. Xi opened this restaurant nearly 30 years ago, to earn extra income to raise her two children and cover household expenses. She smiled and said she didn’t know why she chose to sell this dish, perhaps it was fate.
“I only cook enough, sell for a few hours at noon because my health is limited, sell enough to eat, enough to live, I don’t expect anything more. Usually, I will take Saturdays, Sundays and vegetarian days off, but during the week I still sell as usual. I don’t deliver, nor do I use the phone, so if customers want to eat, they can only come directly,” the owner noted.
Attractive broth.
The broth is rich.
Ms. Xi’s two children are now grown up. Every day, the owner starts working from 4am, preparing everything carefully to be ready to sell on time. But she doesn’t find it hard, on the contrary, she is extremely happy to sell to the customers who have supported her over the years.
Ms. Xi said that she would sell until she no longer had the strength. As long as she sold with all her heart and soul, the owner was confident that there would be many customers every day…
