This is a prestigious scientific forum held annually, gathering more than 300 delegates including researchers, experts, business leaders and many stakeholders from many countries. The conference is an opportunity for scientists and practitioners to exchange knowledge, share experiences, expand cooperation and seek innovative solutions towards a sustainable agriculture and livestock industry.
Speaking at the opening session, Professor, Dr. Tran Ngoc Hai - Vice President of Can Tho University emphasized that the theme of this year's conference is "Circular livestock production system: Solutions for sustainable development". This is a highly topical topic in the context of the world facing many severe challenges such as climate change, natural resource depletion and pressure to ensure food security. Mr. Hai said that the circular livestock model - both reducing waste and optimizing resource use - not only helps increase productivity but is also associated with the responsibility of protecting the environment. This is a promising direction in reducing emissions, recycling nutrients and at the same time contributing to protecting rural livelihoods as well as realizing global sustainable development goals.
According to the Organizing Committee, this year's conference attracted the participation of more than 300 experts from 27 countries to present research results and exchange academic knowledge. The presentations covered many fields, from smart production solutions to adapt to climate change, measures to combat antibiotic resistance, One Health approach, to advances in genetics, nutrition and circular resource reuse models. This is a valuable reference source, contributing to suggesting practical development directions for the livestock industry in developing countries, including Vietnam.
Speaking at the conference, Professor, Dr. Juan Boo Liang (Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security, Universiti Putra Malaysia) - Chairman of SAADC 2025 emphasized that this is the first time the conference has been held in Vietnam. The selection of Can Tho - the center of the Mekong Delta - further demonstrates international attention to one of the most vulnerable regions to the impacts of climate change.
For nearly 20 years, the SAADC conference series has been an important meeting place for scientists and managers to share research results and practical experiences, thereby gradually shaping the future of the livestock industry in developing countries. The 10th event is not only an important milestone, but also a commitment of the international scientific community to join hands to solve existing challenges.
Experts say that livestock farming currently plays a key role in ensuring food security, nutrition and livelihoods for billions of people around the world. However, the industry is also facing pressure to change to develop in a sustainable way, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, protect resources and better adapt to increasingly severe climate changes. Research and solutions shared at SAADC 2025 are expected to contribute to promoting environmentally friendly livestock development policies and strategies, while increasing the competitiveness and sustainability of the agricultural sector in the context of globalization.
With its scale, stature and the massive participation of the international scientific community, the SAADC 2025 conference in Can Tho is expected to become an important boost, helping to enhance the position of Vietnam's scientific research in the international arena, while opening up new cooperation opportunities for our country's livestock and agricultural sectors in the coming period.
