The rammed earth house is a popular house style of the Mong people in Simacai. The house is built with very thick rammed earth (rammed earth wall), creating solidity, warmth in winter and coolness in summer. The rammed earth wall is usually yellow or brown in color.

Houses usually have 3 or 5 rooms. The middle room is usually a place of worship, while the side rooms are where the family lives and activities. Some houses have an additional attic for storage or sleeping. Due to the terrain and history, some Mong houses in Simacai have a closed, square architecture, with surrounding walls, creating a safe living space.

Coming to Si Ma Cai, you can easily see these unique rammed earth houses, especially in the highland villages. They are not only a place to live but also a place to preserve the traditional cultural values of the Hmong Hoa people.
