Construction of the project to expand the Yen Bai - Lao Cai highway to 4 lanes began

Construction of the Yen Bai - Lao Cai section expansion project of the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway started on October 1.

The project has a total length of 121km, with a total investment of nearly VND 7,700 billion, of which public investment capital is VND 3,000 billion and VEC mobilized capital of nearly VND 4,700 billion. This is one of the first projects submitted by the Ministry of Finance to the Government to assign VEC as the project management agency in accordance with the provisions of the law on public investment.

The project investment scope will expand the road surface from 2 lanes to 4 lanes, with a roadbed width of 24m, with a median strip in sync with the sections that have been expanded in phase 1; extend the underpass to match the scale of the 4-lane highway. The old road surface will also be designed to be strengthened or renovated, ensuring synchronization and safe exploitation.

At the same time, the project invests in building a new tunnel on the left side of the route with a length of 530m, with a scale of 3 lanes running in one direction, in the direction of Lao Cai - Noi Bai, suitable for the scale of a 6-lane highway. Smart traffic items are also invested in the entire route to meet the synchronous and continuous connection of equipment serving the management and exploitation of toll collection.

Emphasizing the importance of the project in promoting socio-economic development in the Northwest region, Chairman of Lao Cai Provincial People's Committee Tran Huy Tuan requested the investor, consultant and contractor to closely monitor the construction process and promote high spirit and responsibility in implementing the project. Lao Cai province will create all favorable conditions, especially in site clearance, ensuring social security, stabilizing people's lives, and resolving arising issues to complete the project as planned.

According to information from VEC, since its operation in 2014, traffic volume has continuously increased, raising the urgent need to study and invest in expanding the Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway, especially the Yen Bai - Lao Cai section. According to the plan, the project is expected to be completed in 2026.
