VTC NewsVTC News16/10/2023

This strange rock weighs 1.5 tons and is located right at the entrance of the open-air sculpture museum in the city of Neuenkirchen, Germany. The rock looks rough but the strange thing is that when heated, it can emit wifi.

You just need to stand next to this rock to be able to connect to the internet using your phone, laptop, tablet… to surf the web. Many visitors have come to the museum to confirm this special “ability”.

In fact, this rock does not emit wifi naturally but thanks to “human hands”. It turns out, it is the work of Aram Barthonll, a designer who installed a heat-powered wifi transmitter and a USB drive into the rock.

In addition, in this USB drive one can find PDF files with rich content on survival instructions such as: instructions on breaking up, instructions on dealing with remote-controlled planes, survival instructions for stubborn single women.

After being heated, the generator will convert heat energy into electricity, supporting the wifi broadcast on the homemade software Piratebox, it can create an offline wireless network. Thanks to that, visitors can access, search and download files stored in the USB drive, pre-installed inside this rock.

Aram Bartholl got the idea for this rock from an old German stove called BioLite, which does not require electricity but still works well with the heat provided by fire. He is also proud that this is his first work that combines classic and modern elements. This rock is named Keepalive.
