Mid-Autumn Festival is associated with the image of moon cakes, sticky rice cakes and colorful lanterns. This is the time when children can play, carry lanterns, break cakes and fully feel the warm, joyful atmosphere of the holiday. Over time, Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns have also changed, from the traditional rustic star lanterns to modern lanterns of various shapes and colors, a blend of tradition and modernity, creating a unique color.

In the past, Mid-Autumn lanterns were completely handmade from materials such as bamboo, cellophane... The most popular were star lanterns, carp lanterns, paper lanterns... and had no music, no batteries, just a small candle lit inside.
Mr. Truong Viet Dung - who has been involved in making Mid-Autumn lanterns for many years in Thanh Sen ward shared: "My passion for preserving the profession is partly a personal hobby, but what I value more is the beauty of national traditions. Mid-Autumn lanterns today are a combination of ancient values and modern elements, to educate the young generation about love for their homeland and country."
Nowadays, the Mid-Autumn Festival lantern market has a variety of designs and types: from plastic lamps that light up and play music, to lamps with sensors and remote control. This diversity brings many choices for children. Mr. Nguyen Doan Duc (Thach Ha commune) said: "In the past, the choice of Mid-Autumn Festival lanterns was very limited, but now the market is rich, with more designs to choose from."

Although modern Mid-Autumn lanterns with diverse designs are gradually dominating the market, traditional Mid-Autumn lanterns are still an indispensable part of the Mid-Autumn Festival. On this occasion, The Workshop in Thanh Sen Ward has launched classes to teach students how to make handmade Mid-Autumn lanterns. The lanterns are created with many rich, new shapes, suitable for all ages, both stimulating creativity and helping children understand and connect with the beauty of traditional culture.

Nguyen Tran Mai Ha (Thanh Sen ward) expressed: "Being able to make Mid-Autumn lanterns with my friends makes me very happy and excited. We can freely create and love and look forward to the Mid-Autumn Festival even more."
Ms. Tran Thi Dung - Owner of The Workshop in Thanh Sen ward said: "Every Mid-Autumn Festival, we often organize lantern making workshops for children to unleash their creativity, practice perseverance, and at the same time contribute to preserving traditional beauty."

Children make their own Mid-Autumn lanterns.
Whether it is a star lantern or an electronic lantern, the light emitted from each Mid-Autumn Festival lantern is still a symbol of joy, reunion and childhood memories. In the midst of modernity, preserving and honoring traditional values is not only a responsibility but also a way to make each moon season more complete and meaningful.
