"Our cooperative focuses on the goal of exporting coffee beans from Phu Son Lam Ha. Bringing coffee beans for export with the highest value is the goal for the cooperative as well as associated farmers to bring in stable income," shared Ms. Nguyen Thi Luong - Director of Like Farm Cooperative, Lien Ket village, Phu Son Lam Ha commune.

According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Luong, the cooperative was established in 2021 with 9 members, all of whom are farmers with 60 hectares of Robusta coffee cultivation. Originally, they were farmers who had been attached to coffee trees for a long time on this new land. The members cherished the goal of exporting coffee beans, increasing the value of agricultural products as well as increasing income. Initially, the cooperative operated simply as a supplier of inputs such as fertilizers, agricultural materials, sharing techniques as well as agricultural support for members. After harvesting, farmers' products will be supplied to large coffee purchasing companies in the area.

“Starting from small businesses, farmers support each other in production and business. Gradually, Like Farm has grown stronger and has now built a coffee processing factory. When the season comes, coffee beans are brought back, processed and stored in the cooperative's warehouse. Since then, Like Farm's production and business activities have improved significantly,” Ms. Nguyen Thi Luong proudly said. Currently, Like Farm's coffee factory is equipped with a complete machinery system, from inputs such as washing machines, stone separation, color shooting, size separation, all are completed, the processed coffee beans have stable quality. From the initial small connection, Like Farm now has a stable production capacity, in 2024, Like Farm will purchase and process 8,000 tons of fresh coffee, equivalent to 2,000 tons of green coffee beans, mainly serving export activities to Asian and European markets.

Improving the quality of Vietnamese coffee

“Not only processing green coffee beans for export, Like Farm also focuses on improving the quality of highland specialty coffee beans. We cooperate with VietGAP farmers, ensuring ripe coffee is picked and processed using clean technology to produce specialty coffee beans. Scientists have confirmed that naturally dried coffee will have the best flavor under the sun. Therefore, the cooperative has built a multi-hectare greenhouse system to dry ripe coffee beans,” Ms. Nguyen Thi Luong shared. From these coffee beans, Like Farm sends them to coffee bean competitions in Vietnam as well as some important markets.

“Thanks to our willingness to widely promote Like Farm coffee beans to domestic and foreign markets, we have found many potential customers with demand for Vietnamese coffee. Currently, Like Farm is focusing on the goal of increasing the output as well as the processing quality of coffee beans after harvest to ensure customer requirements,” Ms. Luong informed.

Ms. Nong Thi Hong Van - technical officer of Funo Vietnam Company, who is accompanying and providing technical support to Like Farm, shared that the Cooperative also built a factory specializing in composting organic fertilizer from coffee husks. After harvesting, coffee husks are brought to the factory, go through the fermentation process, and compost according to standards, producing a type of organic fertilizer rich in nutrients to fertilize the coffee garden. Composting organic fertilizer from coffee husks helps the Cooperative reduce costs as well as limit the impact on the outside environment.

“Like Farm is an effective cooperative, a large coffee purchasing and processing unit in our coffee growing region,” said Mr. K’Kin, Chairman of the Farmers’ Association of Phu Son Commune, Lam Ha. According to him, this is a successful model of a collective of farmers aiming to produce high-quality coffee, serving export as well as supplying the domestic coffee market.
