Floods on Thuong and Cau rivers continue to rise

BAC GIANG - According to information from the Bac Giang Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, the water level on the Thuong and Cau rivers continues to rise. On the Thuong River at Cau Son Hydrological Station at 1:00 a.m. on June 23, the water level reached 15.64 m, above alert level 2; at Phu Lang Thuong Hydrological Station it was 4.35 m, above alert level 1. Due to the heavy rains on June 21-22, many low-lying areas in the province are still flooded.

On the morning of June 23, some villages and communes in Hiep Hoa district were still flooded. For example, the stadium of Xuan Cam commune was still flooded more than 1 meter deep. Notably, the water level on Cau River and Thuong River was still rising. On Cau River, the section passing through Son Thinh Commune (Hiep Hoa), the water level rose above alert level 2; at Dap Cau Hydrological Station, it reached alert level 1. Authorities warned people to be more vigilant and take precautions against the risk of flash floods and landslides, especially in areas along rivers, streams, and low-lying areas.

Also according to the Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, through monitoring images from weather radar, it was discovered that convective clouds are forming and developing in the areas of Yen The and Hiep Hoa districts, which are likely to cause showers and thunderstorms. In addition, convective clouds in Vinh Phuc province and Hanoi city tend to move towards Bac Giang province. In the next few hours, these convective clouds will continue to develop, causing showers and thunderstorms in the above areas, and then possibly spread to other areas in the province such as: Viet Yen town, Bac Giang city and districts: Lang Giang, Tan Yen, Luc Nam, Luc Ngan, Son Dong and Chu town. In thunderstorms, there is a potential for strong gusts of wind that can break trees, damage houses, traffic works and infrastructure, endangering human lives.

To minimize damage caused by natural disasters, authorities recommend that people, agencies, units and businesses proactively check and reinforce houses, protect property and limit traveling on the streets when there is heavy rain and thunderstorms.
