Important force on the front line against "internal invaders"

(Baothanhhoa.vn) - During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh paid special attention to fighting corruption and required that fighting corruption must be like fighting "internal invaders". Important force on the front line against

The press, with its function of monitoring and criticizing society, has become an important force on the front line against "internal invaders" (In photo: Reporters of Thanh Hoa Newspaper and Radio and Television Station working at the grassroots level).

In order for the role and voice of the People in the fight against corruption, waste and negativity to be fully and effectively promoted, it is necessary to closely coordinate between press agencies and the People. This was also pointed out by President Ho Chi Minh: "Since the Party and Government launched the movement against bureaucracy, embezzlement and waste through education , self-criticism and criticism, the masses have known how to criticize, the press has published criticisms of the masses". He also required the press "to make the masses enthusiastically criticize, but at the same time must lead the criticism of the masses. Thus, the connection between the press and the masses will be closer; and the work of the masses and the press in educating cadres will also be more effective".

It can be seen that President Ho Chi Minh paid great attention to the press in general and the role of the press in the fight against "internal invaders". Because corruption, waste, and negativity are contrary to the collective interests, the interests of the people and the country; they corrupt human morality, especially the morality of cadres - those who must always uphold, cultivate and practice the virtues of diligence, thrift, integrity and uprightness more than anyone else. However, the fight against "internal invaders" is not easy, therefore, President Ho Chi Minh pointed out the need for close connection between the press and the people. Accordingly, the press is not only the voice reflecting the thoughts and aspirations of the people in the fight against corruption, waste, and negativity; More importantly, as a vanguard force on the Party's ideological front, the press must truly become a strong voice for the spirit of the rule of law, a voice of strong criticism and fight against corruption and waste that are corrupting moral values and wasting national resources.

Reality in recent years shows that, as the fight against corruption, waste, and negativity, or the "great furnace burning" campaign as the people call it, is increasingly promoted by the Party and the State, the role of the press is also increasingly promoted and valued. This has been clearly pointed out by our Party: The great strength and driving force of the fight against corruption, waste, and negativity is the consensus, support, response, and active participation of the people and the entire political system and the press. News agencies and the press have actively joined in, accompanying the Party, the State, and functional agencies in the fight against corruption, waste, and negativity; both propagating, actively fighting, detecting corruption, waste, and negativity, and actively fighting to refute the distorted arguments of hostile forces about the work of preventing and fighting corruption, waste, and negativity.

The clearest evidence showing the important role of the press in orienting information and public opinion is timely, accurate, objective and honest information about corruption cases and the handling results of the functional sector. For example, the corruption and negative case that occurred at Viet A Company was promptly and fully reported by the press to help the people understand the case and especially a series of officials at the Central and local levels involved were made public in the press. From this case, hundreds of officials and party members were disciplined and criminally prosecuted, including high-ranking officials (3 members of the Party Central Committee who are ministers, former ministers and Provincial Party Secretaries; 3 deputy ministers; 3 general-ranking officers in the armed forces...). Or the case that occurred at the Consular Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and a number of related units (40 defendants were prosecuted, including 2 deputy ministers, former deputy ministers, 1 assistant to the Deputy Prime Minister, 2 Vice Chairmen of the People's Committees of provinces and cities, 2 department heads, department heads, etc.). In addition, many negative cases in the non-state sector that occurred in the fields of securities, corporate bonds, and bidding (FLC Group, Tan Hoang Minh, Van Thinh Phat, AIC Company, etc.) were also widely reported by the press to readers. Thereby, not only helping people understand better and speak out more strongly against corruption; but also creating a solid foundation of trust for the Party and State to continue to promote the "furnace burning" campaign, aiming to purge corrupt worms from the public apparatus.

The “degeneration of power” or more specifically the degeneration of officials who are entrusted with power by the People is the cause of corruption and negativity. Therefore, only when power is “locked” in a “cage” of mechanisms and closely monitored, can the door to corruption and negativity be blocked. Our Party performs the role of supervising the exercise of power through the Party’s inspection and supervision; State inspection and audit; supervision of elected bodies and elected representatives, of judicial bodies, the Fatherland Front and its member organizations, of the press, the People and society. In particular, the press is emphasized as a type of “soft power” that has been showing great ability in supervising power, focusing on supervising the cultivation, training of ethics, lifestyle and setting an example of cadres and Party members, especially of leaders. At the same time, detect and reflect corrupt and negative events and behaviors to serve as a basis for the relevant agencies to conduct inspections, checks and handle them according to the provisions of the law. Along with that, the press also plays an important role in promoting good people and good deeds, fighting and criticizing wrong views and corrupt and negative behaviors; protecting, rewarding and encouraging those who bravely fight against corruption and negativity...

The press, with its function of monitoring and social criticism, has become an important force on the front line against "internal invaders". Thereby, it contributes to the work of Party building and rectification, protecting the achievements of socio-economic development and protecting the good moral and cultural values of our nation.
