ANTD.VN - The price index of food group increased by 0.77% and foodstuff increased by 0.66% in October 2024, according to the General Statistics Office.

Food prices increase after storms and floods

According to the statistics agency, the price index of food and catering services in October 2024 increased by 0.55%, causing the overall CPI to increase by 0.18 percentage points.

Of which, the price index of the food group increased by 0.77%, with an increase of 0.03 percentage points; the food group increased by 0.66%, with an increase of 0.14 percentage points; the group of eating out increased by 0.19%, with an increase of 0.01 percentage points.

The increase in food prices in October was mainly due to the impact of storms, rains and unfavorable weather that occurred in September 2024.

Of which, the price index of rice group increased by 0.79% (delicious rice increased by 0.92%; regular rice increased by 0.76%; sticky rice increased by 0.75%).

Domestic rice prices increased due to the impact of prolonged storms and rains, which affected production. The price of ordinary rice usually fluctuates from 14,900 to 18,900 VND/kg; the price of Bac Huong rice ranges from 20,800 to 23,900 VND/kg; the price of Nang Thom delicious ordinary rice from Dao market ranges from 22,300 to 24,500 VND/kg; the price of sticky rice ranges from 27,100 to 41,300 VND/kg.

Besides, some food items in October such as: prices of potatoes, corn, corn flour, instant cereals... also recorded an increase in price compared to before.

Similar to food, the food price index in October 2024 increased by 0.66%. Accordingly, the price of fresh, dried and processed vegetables increased by 3% due to increased consumer demand in the month while some vegetables, tubers and fruits were at the end of the season and rainy weather, storms and floods in many localities affected the supply.

Of which, cabbage prices increased by 8.02%; kohlrabi increased by 7.55%; processed vegetables of all kinds increased by 4.25%; tomatoes increased by 3.33%; other fresh vegetables increased by 3.2%; water spinach increased by 3.05%; fresh beans increased by 2.64%; fruit and root vegetables increased by 1.83%.

Pork prices increased by 0.25%. As of October 28, 2024, the price of live pigs fluctuated between 59,000 and 63,000 VND/kg. Along with this price increase, the price of animal fat increased by 0.85%; poultry meat increased by 0.2%, of which chicken meat price increased by 0.31%; other poultry meat increased by 0.02%. In addition, the price of eggs of all kinds increased by 0.18%.

Fresh seafood prices increased by 0.36% due to increased demand, reduced output during the rainy and stormy season, and limited fishing boats, resulting in reduced seafood catches. Of which, fresh or chilled shrimp prices increased by 0.83%; fresh or chilled fish increased by 0.21%; other fresh seafood increased by 0.11%.

In addition, many types of fresh fruit and processed fruit also increased in price from last month, including many popular fruits such as bananas, mangoes, etc. Spices, cakes, candies, tea, and coffee also increased in price in October and increased significantly compared to the beginning of this year.

The increase in food prices has also put pressure on household spending. Despite the recent salary increase, people say the increase in prices of essential goods and services still forces them to calculate their spending very carefully.
