It is quite common for actors to have their roles or scenes cut. However, it is important that the process and handling be carried out in a reasonable and thoughtful manner, ensuring a balance between objective and emotional factors.
The fact that many scenes of Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc and singer Cam Ly in the movie Ma da were cut is causing controversy. Previously, the promotional materials of the movie created great expectations for the return of Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc and the cinematic debut of singer Cam Ly. However, the theatrical version disappointed the audience when the appearance time of both artists was too little compared to what had been revealed. In particular, impressive scenes of singer Cam Ly such as the wading scene were completely "evaporated". Producer Nhat Trung later spoke up to explain and apologize, but still did not calm the audience's reaction. Many viewers think that the producer did not respect the artist when he waited until the movie was released, when the audience reacted, to apologize.
It is not uncommon for actors, even Hollywood A-list stars, to have their scenes cut out of their movies. There are many reasons for this, from adjusting the length of the film, issues related to the actors, or simply for creative reasons of the filmmakers. However, if the scene is cut out arbitrarily, without a reasonable explanation, it will easily lead to disappointment from the audience and the reaction of the actors.
The way the producer of the film Ma da handled the situation when it was “already done” showed a lack of subtlety, thoughtfulness and persuasion in both sentiment and reason. It hurt the artists and made them feel unappreciated. Even the producer himself suffered losses because he wasted money, time and effort on set, as well as not having the media resonance effect from the fans of these two artists. The lack of clear communication with the actors from the post-production stage also partly showed a lack of professionalism.
The case of the movie Ma da can become a remarkable lesson for the Vietnamese film industry. The film market always needs professionalism from the smallest things, cooperation and consensus from all parties. Moreover, in this case, the reason is not complete, the situation is even more incomplete, causing the film to lose some sympathy.
