Like a wonder of nature, every year, around July, when the red flood water of alluvium from the upper Mekong flows into the fields of the headwaters of the Mekong River, the sesbania trees rise from the dry ground and bloom one after another.
The small sesban flower has thin and fragile petals, but its yellow color is as brilliant as the yellow apricot blossoms welcoming spring. But more than the yellow apricot blossoms adding to the spring, the sesban flower is like a gift from nature to the flooded areas.
Because it not only serves as a support for people in flood-prone areas to reduce the feeling of being insecure in front of the sea of water, creating a typical symbol of the Mekong Delta flood season, but also gives people here the ingredients to make more attractive the specialties of the Southern river region, such as: braised fish sauce, banh xeo...
No need for care or fertilizer, the water mimosa plant absorbs alluvial water to bloom, absorbs fresh air to bloom brightly, so it is considered a pure natural vegetable given by heaven and earth.
After the flood recedes, the tree bears fruit and buries its seeds in the ground, waiting until the following year to grow up and bloom, continuing a new life cycle. Thus, the sesbania has persistently remained attached to the Mekong Delta, reminding many generations living far away of it as the image of their homeland.
