In the early stages of the season, Man Utd had to urgently look for a goalkeeper replacement after Altay Bayindir's unconvincing performance in the Premier League and Andre Onana's disastrous performance in the Carabao Cup defeat to Grimsby.

The continuous mistakes of goalkeepers Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir have left Man Utd with no choice but to recruit a new goalkeeper.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Man Utd are getting closer to signing goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa. Notably, the Argentine goalkeeper was surprisingly absent from Aston Villa's match list for the clash with Crystal Palace last night.
Martinez had shown signs of leaving Aston Villa fans after last season but a new destination has not yet come true. Although he has 4 years left on his contract with Aston Villa, the 2022 World Cup winner is said to be "very eager" to join Old Trafford. Previously, ESPN revealed that Martinez had tried to promote the deal but MU only made a loan offer and was rejected by Villa.
Man Utd's board will immediately negotiate a transfer fee with Aston Villa on the last day of the transfer market (September 1). Not only Martinez, Man Utd also has its eyes on Antwerp's Senne Lammens.

The Belgian started the first four games of the season but was surprisingly left out of the squad recently amid transfer speculation. However, Aston Villa have also entered the race, seeing the 22-year-old as a potential replacement for Martinez, who has moved to Man Utd.
Meanwhile, former Manchester United and Aston Villa legend Dwight Yorke believes Martinez is the ideal choice for Old Trafford. He said: “Emi Martinez is a strong-minded, experienced goalkeeper, a World Cup winner and one of the best in penalty shootouts.
I was convinced he would definitely go to Man Utd and it's a shame the deal didn't work out. Although staying at Aston Villa was a reasonable decision for Martinez, it would have been more ideal if the goalkeeper had gone to Man Utd."
